She couldn’t bring herself to sell since she had gut rehabbed every inch of the space. Instead, she chose to share the fruits of her blood, sweat, tears and expenditures with Chicago visitors. Brick walls, hardwood floors, moldings, wood elements, architectural details, and many books make this condo a place full of charm, character and style.

Name: Camilla Molders Location: Middle Park; Melbourne, Australia Size: Small! A one-bedroom apartment Years lived in: 2 years; Rented Camilla‘s bright and colourful home in the gorgeous Melbourne suburb of Middle Park reminds me of the sun twinkling on the ocean on a bright Summer’s day.

Name: Kate Hayes DesignLocation: Size: ~Years Lived In: In a whirlwind of color and eclectic detail, Jack and Kate have managed to retain the old southern charm of their lovely home in Grant Park while keeping it fresh and modern. Kate is the head of her own design company and I was ecstatic to visit with the designer in her natural habitat. Being at Jack and Kate’s home was such a pleasure to explore as every room seemed to tell a story.

Name: Sarah Mac & Davey Riot Location: Parkdale; Toronto, Canada Size: 800 square feet Years lived in: 1.5 years; Rented Most Apartment Therapy House Tours offer a look inside the dwellings of folks who are happily settled — or newly settling — into their homes, but this tour is a bit of a swan song. By the time these photos are published, Sarah & Davey will already have left the cozy lodge-style apartment for a new place across town.

Name: Andy Isaacson Location: Brooklyn, New York Size: 700 square feet Years lived in: 2 years; Owned Walking into Andy’s open and bright apartment, you immediately feel transported to another world. Somewhere relaxing. And the more time you spend in Andy’s home, the richer the details. You’ll find an old chair from Yankee Stadium, stamps from Soviet Russia, public health posters from Laos. His unique collections fit harmoniously in a modern, comfortable space.

Name: Charlotte Starling, her husband Boris, their children Florence and Linus and rescue greyhounds, Velvet and Dash. Location: Dorset, United Kingdom Size: 4,000 square feet Years lived in: 5 years Driving into the pretty Dorset village of Frampton, I feel as if I have unwittingly gate crashed the set of a Richard Curtis movie.

Name: Sam Rosen and Linsey Burritt Location: Noble Square — Chicago, Illinois Size: 3,000 square feet Years lived in: 5 years; Rented Linsey and Sam met in 2008. In 2009, Linsey realized her new friend Sam was the best friend she ever made so she asked him to dinner on graph paper. At the end of 2014, Sam asked Linsey, on an index card (her favorite) if she would marry him. This June they wed at the Garfield Park Conservatory (they love plants).

Name: Natasha R. Johnson Location: Bedford-Stuyvesant; Brooklyn, New York Size: Approximately 500 square feet Years lived in: 1.5 years; Rented With no extra space to spare, Natasha was both deliberate and maximal in organizing the decorative and essential elements of her studio apartment. In the 35+ countries that she has lived and/or worked in as a college professor and international human rights attorney, she has assembled her fair share of global keepsakes.

Name: Samantha Schulz and Christa Schulz Location: West Hollywood; Los Angeles, California Size: 2 bedroom, 1 bath Years lived in: 1 year, Rented The minute I walked into Sam and Christa’s gorgeous Spanish Deco-style apartment, I felt as though I were visiting a couple old friends. First of all, it is clear they are old friends themselves, a rare and inspiring quality to find in a mother-daughter pair.

Name: Melinda and Mark Fay Location: Eagle Rock; Los Angeles, California Size: 1,800 square feet Years lived in: 16 years; owned Melinda Fay, owner of Good Eye Gallery in Eagle Rock, has a background in therapy and finds the act of curating spaces deeply beneficial to her well-being. Her ability to refine and curate her family’s extensive collection of art is nothing short of impressive.

Name: Brooke Baker Eide Location: Ballard; Seattle, Washington Size: 800 square feet Years lived in: 1.5 years; Rented I came across a really exciting and unique House Tour adventure to bring you all on. We have two individually inspiring tours to go on by a very design savvy couple. You see they were just about to get married and move in together, and I was lucky enough to catch them at their individual homes just a few weeks before their wedding.

Name: Katy Minton and Emily Stroud Location: Nashville, Tennesee Size: 600 square feet Years lived in: 1 year When entering Katy and Emily’s home, you know their personality right away. Eclectic with a side of whimsy and a dash of smarty pants. From their “bitch please” embroidered hoop, to the taxidermied deer over the fireplace, to the poppy colors used in the home, you get an impression of two quirky interesting ladies you’re going to have fun with.

Name: Jessica Bowers – founder of West Village Life Location: West Village, NYC Size: 1 Bedroom/1 Bath Years lived in: Under 1 year; Rent Nestled on a charming street in the West Village, lives Jessica, founder and author of the popular Instagram @WestVillageLife, an account that shares the many charms of this historic neighborhood with its nearly 30K followers. It’s no surprise that her eye for detail and style extends into her personal space as well as her photography.

Name: Michelle & Jeffrey Alves de Lima-Miller (plus Amélie & Lester, our cats) Location: New York, New York Size: 650 square feet Years lived in: 2.5 years; owned. In a beautiful old building on Manhattan’s Upper West Side live Michelle, Jeffrey, and their two cats. Soon they’ll be adding a new little one to the mix, and moving to a larger and more family-friendly apartment in Brooklyn. But just a few days before their move, they welcomed me to their lovely home.

Viewers swooned over the whimsical pops of color, the high tin ceilings and the overall quality of the historically preserved elements of the home.

Name: Lauren Baker Location: Ravenswood; Chicago, Illinois Size: 927 square feet Years lived in: 10 months, owned From the moment Lauren opened the door, I knew this was going to be a fun tour. Lauren greeted me like an old friend, and her personal warmth and natural ease are evident throughout her home, as much of it is designed with one-of-a-kind pieces acquired through her relationships with local businesses and artisans.

Size: 520 square feet Years lived in: 2 years; Renting To say this cool couple knows how to maximize space would be an understatement. Amy and Jeremy may very well be the champions of resourcefulness, tidiness, and organization, while maintaining a charming and minimalism about their home. Stepping into the space initially, one might mistake it for a long foyer leading to the bedroom.

Name: Danny and Joni Location: Williamsburg —Brooklyn, New York Size: 690 square feet Years lived in: 3.5 years How do you make 690 square feet feel absolutely enormous? Add tall ceilings, lots and lots of windows, and some clever DIY storage solutions. Danny and Joni have come up with plenty of creative solutions for living in an apartment that is essentially just a single room — and that only has one closet, which also houses the water heater.

Dawn is a very talented lady of fabulous style and her home is a homage to an era she lives and breathes, be it as Dawn Lindsay, entrepreneur-around-town, or her alter-ego Dolores Daquiri, Queen of Burlesque! Dressed from her own vintage collection, Dawn welcomes me through the cherry red door and into her home.

Name: Gabriel Fontes de Faria & Grant Gochnauer Location: Wicker Park; Chicago, IL Size: 4,000 square feet Years lived in: 4 years; owned If I had to summarize Gabriel and Grant’s home in two words, I would pick “beauty” and “restraint.” The couple’s townhouse is elegant and pared down, and each element seems considered and loved.

Name: Jennifer Pade Location: West Village, New York, New York Size: 325 square feet Years lived in: 17 years You may know Jennifer’s apartment from her Renovation Diary, where we chronicled the transformation of her tiny kitchen from a crumbling disaster to a sleek, modern space. After all the dust settled, Jennifer graciously invited us back to get a look at the rest of her space.

Name: Ashley Clauss, of CLAUSS & CO., a communications consultancy specializing in brand strategy, public relations and event production. Location: West Village; New York, New York Size: 400 square feet Years lived in: 6 years; Rented Diligent editing and an honest desire to be surrounded in her apartment only by things she loves has served Ashley Clauss very well.

Name: Sri Kettelhake Location: Amsterdam, The Netherlands Size: 1,600 square feet Years lived in: 2 years; owned Born and raised in the Netherlands, Sri is an Amsterdam native who has lived in major cities like Sydney and London. She worked in advertising for many years up until having her first child. Her husband Nick is in the same industry, and because they both know how many hours their work requires, for now, Sri has decided to stay home to care for their lovely son Samuel.

Name: Kelly and Dave; son Litton (“Lit”) Location: Lawrence, Kansas Size: 3,200 square feet Years lived in: 3 years; Owned When Kelly and Dave purchased their split-level home back in 2012, there were months of renovations ahead of them. The neighborhood is what initially drew them to a house that, as Kelly put it, “was an ugly eyesore! Asbestos tiles! Wood paneling EVERYWHERE! I have some before pictures if you care to see,” (which we will share in more posts to come).

Name: Allison Reijmer Location: Wicker Park, Chicago Size: 700 square feet Years lived in: 1 year; Rented Within a few minutes of entering Allison’s apartment, I was struck by three fantastic elements: 1) Lofted ceiling! 2) Gorgeous fresh flowers! and 3) The outstanding Bloody Mary I was offered within 5 minutes of meeting her! That’s like the Triple Crown of House Tour welcomes and a great first impression that perfectly matched Allison’s warm and stylish home.

Name: Logan Sommers Location: Los Feliz — Los Angeles, CA Size: 400 square feet With an eye for detail, visual display artist and former New Yorker Logan Sommers has outfitted his cozy studio apartment with panache. He currently resides in Los Feliz, one of the few quaint and walkable communities situated in the heart of the sprawling expanse that is Los Angeles.

Name: Gillian and Mark Location: Vancouver, BC Size: 800 square feet Years lived in: 6 Months; Rented Mark, an electrical engineer, and Gillian Stepping into Mark and Gillian’s apartment felt like stepping into a quiet country home. Their home is just tucked away enough to escape the busy city life most people in Vancouver are used to. The building has an amazing view of the ocean and mountains, and their home is often filled with a wonderful sea breeze.

Name: Luke and Claire Staszak Location: Logan Square; Chicago, Illinois Size: 2 bedroom + office Years lived in: 2 years; Rented Luke and Claire are two incredibly warm and inspiring individuals. Spending time with them in their beautiful greystone included stories of their experiences living in New Zealand together, details on their impressive DIY projects, discussions about the music playing on their record player, and lots of laughter.

This small-ish apartment is home to Kate and her Cavalier King Charles spaniel, Lady, and also serves as her office (she works from home).

Name: Joanna Buchmeyer Location: Irvington; Portland, OR Size: 800 square feet While living in Chicago, Joanna had already accumulated a collection of treasured pieces with an cozy, earthy style, so making a new home in Portland was a natural fit. However, with the influx of other transplants that were also coming to the city, finding an apartment with charm and space was highly competitive.

Name: Amie, Emma, and Francesca Location: Toronto, Ontario Size: 500 square feet Years lived in: 2 years; Rented When these three met at University three years ago during orientation week they decided: “forget the dorm, let’s share an apartment together”. They found this 500 square foot downtown apartment on their only day of searching and they knew that they had to have it (especially after seeing the next one on their list).

Name: Anette, husband Barrett, and baby boy Elliot Location: Oslo, Norway Size: 950 square feet Years lived in: 3 years; owned Welcome to Scandi Week—Apartment Therapy’s seven-day focus on all-things Scandinavia (often defined as the countries of Sweden, Denmark, and Norway). Sometimes it seems like the whole world is obsessed with trying to copy this corner of the globe, from its timeless style aesthetic to its now-famous coziness rituals.

Name: Ashley & Bryan Norwood Location: Cambridgeport; Cambridge, MA Size: 440 square feet Years lived in: 6 years; Rented Filled with bright personality and space-conscious items, Ashley and Bryan’s apartment in the Cambridgeport neighborhood of Cambridge, MA, feels full but not cluttered. An intrinsic balance exists here—his and hers, style and function—and everything feels well-used and loved.

Name: Rebecca Caridad Facteau (a photographer and artist) & Dustin Facteau Location: Boulder, Colorado Size: 750 square feet Years lived in: 3.5 years; Owned Stepping into the colorful, light filled space belonging to Boulder residents Rebecca and Dustin Facteau, you might be shocked to discover that you are actually standing in a mobile home (although it will probably take you a while to notice).

Name: Giverny Petitmermet and Mara Gannon (plus Eloise the cat) Location: Carroll Gardens/Gowanus, Brooklyn, New York Size: 800 square feet Years lived in: 3.5 years (as of house tour photo shoot)/1.5 years (at time of A-Line video shoot); rented In Brooklyn, on the top floor of a charming little building located just across the street from the elevated subway tracks, is Giverny and Mara’s apartment.

Name: Javier Ferrer, Ana Lanfranco, Mina, and Fedra Location: Valencia, Spain Size: 1,600 square feet Years lived in: 13 years; Owned Javier and Ana are the entrepreneur powerhouse duo behind two of the trendiest cafés in Valencia as well as Simple, a charming downtown decoration store that specializes in vintage and artisanal products for the home.

Name: Allison + Matt Location: East Village (Alphabet City); New York, New York Size: 750 square feet Years lived in: 9 months Allison and Matt moved into this one-bedroom apartment, their first as a couple, nine months ago. Together they’ve created a space that’s a perfect reflection of their roots (he’s from Tennessee, and she’s from Seattle), their mutual love of travel, and their new life together.

Location: Bedford-Stuyvesant — Brooklyn, New York Size: 3,900 square feet Years lived in: 2 years This Brooklyn brownstone is pretty much perfect: tall ceilings, ten-foot doors, all those glorious moldings, and floors to die for. But it wasn’t always this way. Working through endless rounds of renovations—and living in the house while it was updated—was a real labor of love for the owner.

Name: Robyn Rich, husband Jonathan, and daughter Abbey Location: Frankston, Australia Size: 145 square meters, (1,560 sqft) Years lived in: 11 Years I stumbled upon Robyn via her Facebook page one night when I was probably avoiding doing other things. I’d “liked” one of my artist friend’s newest pieces and old Zuckerberg and pals asked if perhaps I’d like Robyn’s work too? Well, I think I would, thankyouverymuch.

Name: Esteban Montes & Carolina Cabal Location: Greenpoint, Brooklyn, New York Size: 1200 square feet Years lived in: 3 years What happens when two designers move in together, and discover unexpected bits of history in their lovely, modern Brooklyn condo? As Esteban and Carolina’s stylish Brooklyn home proves: something very special.

Name: Lara Linn Location: Newport, Rhode Island Size: 630 square feet + 140-square-foot porch Years lived in: 4 years; Rented Lara Linn enjoys a simple life. She lives right in the heart of Newport, just blocks away from her small art studio and the Newport Art Museum, where she is an active member and ceramicist. She is walking distance from all the seaside city’s best restaurants and nightlife and lives in a spot where it’s easy for friends to drop by and say hello.

Name: Isaac Aptaker Location: Silver Lake; Los Angeles, CA Size: 1,200 square feet Years lived in: 2 years; Owned Aside from the fact that it’s oozing with Mid-century charm, Isaac Aptaker’s home in the hills on the east side of Los Angeles has two big things going for it: privacy, and spectacular views of the city.

Name: Jodi Capobianco & Michael Bell and their daughters Location: Parsonsfield, Maine Size: 1,200 square feet Years lived in: 4 years; Owned After three years of looking for the perfect nest, Jodi (Martha Stewart’s former personal head gardener) and Michael (a busy landscaper) found their dream home: a sun-flooded wooden house on top of a mountain.

Name: Alexandra Hanson & Jesse Location: Jackson Heights; Queens, New York Size: 1,050 square feet Years lived in: 9 months; Owned Despite having only moved into their co-op in November, Alex and Jesse have already made their new space feel like home, and it’s amazing how similar the aesthetic in this place is to that of their previous apartments.

Name: Elizabeth Wissel Location: Irvington; Indianapolis, Indiana Size: 2,508 square feet (including unfinished basement) Years lived in: 6 years; Owned In design, as in real estate, the key is location, location, location — at least that’s the case in Elizabeth’s home, in which everything is arranged beautifully. The layered clusters of curios around the house provide rich texture and engaging depth in every corner.

Name: Vasanti Lackner and her dog, Tango Location: Silverlake; Los Angeles, California Size: 650 square feet + 256-square-foot detached art studio Years Lived In: 5 years; Owned You’re either an artist or a musician if you’re a Lackner, and Vasanti and her mother, Diana, are both fine artists.

Case in point: Brett and Betsy’s West Village apartment, whose main room multitasks as a living room, dining room, workspace, and kitchen, all without sacrificing style.

Name: Adriana Neumann Location: Italian Market; Philadelphia, PA Size: 500 square feet Years lived in: 1 year; Rented We all strive to create a home that is highly personal, and Adriana’s small one-bedroom apartment is exactly that. Filled with hand-me-down furniture from family members, collected items from her travels across the country, and unique pieces that Adriana has made herself, this home is packed with memories and meaning.

Name: Laura, Bob, Conor, and Frederick Ker Location: Back Cove; Portland, Maine Size: 1,500 square feet Years lived in: 1 year; Owned When Laura and Bob moved from Brooklyn, New York, to Portland, Maine, they knew exactly what they wanted: to be closer to family and to have more space. They’ve not only created a stylish home for their family, but also opened Find, a buy-trade-sell boutique which has become a staple in the Portland shopping scene.

Name: David Brown Location: Lower Eastside — Santa Barbara, California Size: 900 square feet Years lived in: 5 years; Owned The concrete floor—now honed to perfection—and the roll-up door are the only indications that David’s light and bright studio was formerly a garage. With the help of a skillful design team and an able contractor, David transformed the garage into a studio that epitomizes simple indoor/outdoor living.

Name: Charlotte Evans & Tom Evans and their two children, Lola & Ted Location: Muswell Hill — London, UK Size: 1,600 square feet Years lived in: 6 years; Owned Finding a property in London that still retains the charm, detail, and character from when it was created in the early 1900s and has been untouched for 25 years is like finding treasure.

Name: Theodore Venable Location: Hell’s Kitchen — New York, NY Size: 380 square feet Years lived in: 1 year; Rented Theo recently relocated to New York City from Chicago with all of his belongings, and like any transplant coming to NYC, he was faced with the difficult task of downsizing. Theo had to make the adjustment from a 680-square-foot one-bedroom apartment to a 380-square-foot two-bedroom apartment!

Different rooms in his big yet cozy Chicago apartment are dedicated to different members of his family.

Name: Gemma and Duncan Patford-Legge Location: Brunswick; Melbourne, Australia Size: 2 bedroom Years lived in: 3 years; Owned After buying their apartment in the inner-city suburb of Brunswick three years ago, rope vessel artist Gemma Patford and graphic designer Duncan Legge were determined to turn it from drab, rundown, dated disaster to something light, airy, welcoming, and altogether more modern—with a touch of nostalgia.

After making arrangements with Julie, I was thrilled to see inside a preserved Art Deco-era building. Minneapolis is rich in its beautifully maintained and functioning historical architecture, and Julie’s place is no exception!

Name: Jen Lorentzen and Eric Thompson and their dogs, Sage and Bruiser Location: University Park; Portland, Oregon Size: 968 square feet Years lived in: 11 years; Owned Along with lots of color, Jen and Eric have filled their mid-century home in Portland’s University Park neighborhood with furniture and decor they’ve found at vintage stores, scored at estate sales, and inherited from family.

Name: Julie Judson Location: South End; Boston, Massachusetts Size: 779 square feet Years lived in: 2 years; Owned Julie’s enthusiasm is contagious and her hospitality undeniable, so it’s no wonder this Texas transplant has been wildly successful engaging Boston-area millennials in supporting her passion: the arts. When you step into her apartment, you feel immediately at home.

Name: Elissa Hall Location: King; Portland, Oregon Size: 1,200 square feet Years lived in: 1 year; Rented When Elissa finally found her Portland home, it had been preserved to honor the integrity of the architecture while also gently renovated to make the most of the space and available light. With the gift of a clean palette in front of her, Elissa’s challenge was then to make the space homey and reflective of her taste while nesting in with two other roommates.

Name: Marta Sasinowska and Mike Nourse Location: Pilsen neighborhood — Chicago, Ilinois Size: 1,500 square feet Years lived in: 5 years; Rented Marta and Mike like to call their apartment “the tree house,” because of the lofted spaces, the hammock, and the light streaming in through different corners as if through the branches of trees.

Making an effort to co-design their apartment helped them find a balance that resulted in a lovely and inviting home. Ross: We are always at the water and I think that it’s really apparent in our style.

Meanwhile, light from the many windows, pops of color, and the warm, neutral tones of her decor go a long way towards making it feel welcoming, comfortable, and soothing.
