I Tried Coop’s New Antibacterial, Copper-Infused Bedding — Here’s My Honest Review

While I don’t always change my bed sheets at the one-week mark, I try my best to stay on top of it — mostly because experts say you should wash them frequently if you have skin sensitivities (I’m acne-prone and my husband has eczema) and sweat, oil, bacteria, and dead skin cells can build up over time and cause flare-ups. We’re also hot sleepers, so I like to wash them regularly to keep them feeling and smelling fresh. I thought that was the best I could do, then I discovered Coop’s new Copper+ Adjustable Pillow and Copper+ Sheet Set, which use copper-infused fibers and claim to be antibacterial, odor-resistant, and ultimately, better for your skin. 

Apartment Therapy editors’ have had great things to say about the bedding brand’s cooling pillows and bed sheets, so I couldn’t wait to get the new Copper+ pieces on my bed. It’s been over a month now, and while the skincare benefits are still TBD, I can say that the bedding didn’t disappoint. Coop’s Copper+ line includes an Adjustable Pillow and a Sheet Set. If you’re not familiar with Coop’s adjustable pillows, know that it’s kind of their speciality: you can adjust the firmness and loftiness by adding or removing fill (they come with an extra bag of fill!), and essentially create the pillow that works for the way you sleep. The Copper+ pillow features a soft, copper-infused outer cover and a copper-infused inner liner, which helps keep the pillow feeling and smelling fresh, and combats 99.93% of acne-causing bacteria. Even the cross-cut memory foam fill is infused with graphene — a carbon-based material that helps draw out excess body heat and combats odor and bacteria — so there’s freshness at every level.

The Copper+ Sheet Set includes a fitted sheet, flat sheet, and two pillowcases. Woven from a blend of copper-infused bamboo and modal, the sheets boast a silky-soft, luxurious feel that doesn’t tug on your skin. Think of the copper fibers as an added layer of defense against acne-causing bacteria and odors, they won’t cure acne or keep you from getting sick, but they will help prolong the overall cleanliness of your sheets (which, ultimately, is better for your skin). And they’ll feel cool and luxurious while doing it. The Copper+ Sheets are also OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certified, which means every component has been tested for harmful substances. They’re available in white and gray. 

I’ll admit, I was slightly dubious about the adjustable pillow (call me lazy, but it sounded like more work!), but it ended up being my favorite part of this collection. I love a thick, lofty pillow that’s slightly firm, and it only took a couple of handfuls of extra filling to achieve my preferred level of plushness. And dare I say that filling it up was actually kind of fun. I still have some of the fill left over in case I want to beef it up in the future, too, and it’s nice to have that flexibility! I also move around a lot throughout the night, and the pillow keeps me comfortable and supported through every sleep position. What’s more, I also appreciate how soft the pillow’s cover is. I could’ve used it sans pillowcase if I wanted, but it obviously makes the perfect pairing with the Copper+ pillowcase. 

When it comes to the Copper+ sheets, I was shocked by how silky and luxurious they felt. They’re incredibly soft and slippy, so I immediately understood where Coop’s “friction-free” claim came from. I usually wake up with deeply embedded sheet marks all over my face, but that hasn’t been the case with these. The pillowcase feels ultra-smooth and gently glides against my cheeks. And the sheets themselves feel practically weightless, which is a good thing if you’re a hot sleeper like me. They’re light and breathable, without skimping on that premium, luxurious texture that I crave at bed time. They’re so light, in fact, that they’re almost a little sheer (see the photo above), so if you like a more substantial sheet, these may not be the best fit for you. I haven’t woken up in a sweat once since they’d been on my bed, either. No night sweats means there hasn’t been any stinky odors building up on my sheets, which is good news all around! 

Granted, I can’t say that the Copper+ line helped improve my sensitive, acne-prone skin (time will tell), but knowing that it has antibacterial properties does give me extra peace of mind. The antibacterial copper and the sheet’s cooling, breathable texture are like a one-two punch against my odor-causing night sweats. I’ll continue regularly washing my sheets, of course, and stick to my skincare routine, but I like knowing that my bed is technically more hygienic with them there. My bed also feels way more comfortable, and frankly, luxurious, thanks to the silky sheets and plush, cloud-like pillow.
