Costco’s $20 Citrus Trees Are Back — and They Won’t Stay in Stock
Costco is known for releasing some fan-favorite plants (like the beloved fiddle leaf figs), and this spring is shaping up to be just as fruitful as ever. Right now the store’s best-selling citrus trees are rolling out in warehouses, and shoppers are ready to act fast. Gardeners and newbie green thumbs alike will want to grab one or more for their yards — especially because the trees are under $20.
“Costco is stacked with plants,” Laura Lamb from Costco Hot Finds said in a recent Instagram video. “If you have some planting to do this season, you need to run to Costco. I showed up there this morning and it looked like a garden center. They had everything from magnolia trees to fruit trees and citrus plants. They had hibiscus, boxwoods, palms, and so much more. And everything was such a good deal.”
“Oh how I’d love to pick fresh lemons from my very own lemon tree,” one person commented on Lamb’s post. Another said, “Just got my citrus tree to add to the collection.”
Which Citrus Trees Are Available at Costco?
Although stock will depend on location, Lamb’s local Costco has both lemon and lime trees from Saxon Becnel & Sons in stock. They each come in a one-gallon pot and are ready to plant in the ground or in a large garden planter, if you plan on bringing them indoors at the end of the season.
No Costco nearby, or don’t belong to the club? You can grab the same tree from The Home Depot for just under $50 and have it delivered right to your door.
According to the Saxon Becnel & Sons website, citrus trees should be planted in warmer climates and in areas that receive full sun. Make sure you dig a hole that’s twice the size of the pot, and only water your tree about once a week.
Costco also has citrus trees available on its website. This Alder & Oak Meyer Lemon Tree is just under $100 and can be purchased as a standard or semi-dwarf tree. The lemons on this tree are not only great for eating, but they’re also meant to attract butterflies and hummingbirds.
Head to your nearest Costco to pick up a few citrus plants to turn your backyard into a fruit-filled oasis that’ll ensure you never run out of lemons or limes during the summer. And because these trees are just $20 each, you can try growing an entire grove (even while sticking to a tight budget)!
