Deal Alert: Costco Has 7-Foot-Tall Palms for Less than $30 Each
After bringing us three-for-$20 potted succulents and shockingly low-priced fiddle leaf figs, Costco’s back at it with seriously affordable houseplants. This time, the retailer has potted palms for just $27.99—and these beauties are big. Like, between 5 and 7 feet tall big.
A post from the Instagram profile @costco_doesitagain tipped us off—and with 3,600 likes on the post and counting, it’s clear we’re not the only ones who are excited. There appear to be a few different varieties offered, based on this Instagram post and another on Reddit.
The original poster called these ferns, but other users point out they’re palms. Based on the signage, Costco is selling a few different types of these large tropical plants, including majesty palms and what look to be areca palms, for $27.99 each. All are potted in 12-inch grower’s pots. The Reddit poster spotted theirs in Iowa, but other commenters have seen palms in their stores throughout the midwest and in Southern California.
Still need convincing? Check out the Costco palm in reader Rhianna Evgen’s entryway setup. She scored hers—a majesty palm—in Minnesota, and says it’s about 7 feet tall. Majesty palms are native to Madagascar, where they grow near rivers and streams. Because of this, they prefer bright light (six to eight hours a day!) and lots of moisture. While they can grow up to 80 feet tall in their natural habitat, the good news is that they’re slow growers—meaning you don’t have to fret about them busting through your ceiling when you’re keeping them as a houseplant.
If you pick up a palm from Costco, let us know in the comments where you found it and what you got!
