This One Designer-Approved Decor Swap Will Take Your Bathroom to the Next Level
Bathrooms are one of the most practical, functional spaces in the home — but that doesn’t mean they have to look the part. Swapping out a few of those everyday essentials and toiletries for more elevated versions can help transform even the smallest bathrooms into little pockets of luxury throughout your home. For example, you might swap out your hand soap for the fancy kind, or use vintage apothecary jars to store your cotton balls and Q-tips … Oh, and don’t forget to light a candle while you’re at it.
None of these suggestions are novel ideas, it’s true. But last month, during a visit to the 2026 Pasadena Showcase House (an annual fundraiser where dozens of designers transform rooms throughout a gorgeous estate in the San Gabriel Valley), I came across a truly stunning bathroom upgrade that I can honestly say I’d never seen before. You heard it here first, folks: Designers are all about decorative toilet paper!
What Is Decorative Toilet Paper?
I’m aware that it must sound a bit silly; amid coats of vibrant paint, freshly-laid tile, and the finest shining hardware, it was the toilet paper that had me oohing and ahhing at these designer bathrooms. Printed with a gorgeous rose motif, it’s almost too pretty to flush.
This whimsical toilet paper wasn’t very hard to find; one quick Google search led me to the exact same style used by the designers. The FOMIYES Floral Toilet Paper Rolls come in a two-pack on Amazon for $14, which isn’t all that cheap compared to the giant pack I buy at Costco. Still, in the grand scheme of things it’s not bad, and you can save it for special occasions when you have guests coming over.
Why Would You Need Decorative Toilet Paper?
You might be thinking: what’s the point of “upgrading” an item that you’re just going to flush away anyhow? If you think like a designer, then you’ll know that the devil truly is in the details. Though most would consider toilet paper to be the furthest thing from decor, this elevated version goes a long way towards making the space feel truly immersive. Where normal, everyday toilet paper might stick out in this space like a sore thumb, this one almost blends in, becoming a part of the design.
This year’s Showcase House was full of eye-candy, budding trends, and rich color palettes, but the simplicity of this one small item is one of the things that stuck out most to me. When even the smallest, most inconsequential of items is beautified, it really takes a space to the next level. So tell me: would you try decorative toilet paper in your bathroom? Or is this one trend you’ll be flushing away?
