Although I live in a small apartment, my kitchen is decently spacious with a designated place for everything. The only problem is my tiny freezer — no matter how hard I try, I can’t seem to keep it organized. There are bags and boxes on top of each other, and so many small items get lost in the shuffle.

I was searching for a better way to organize my freezer when I came across a brilliant hack right here on Apartment Therapy that uses a Dollar Tree wire dish rack as a freezer storage gem.

Why You Should Put a Dollar Tree Dish Rack in Your Freezer

In the original video by Bargain Bethany, a creator who regularly shares Dollar Tree tricks and hacks, she showcases how to cleverly use a $1.50 dish rack from Dollar Tree to maximize freezer space effortlessly. She places it horizontally on the bottom of her freezer and uses each tier to hold boxes of frozen food that were otherwise messily strewn about.

I couldn’t believe that such an easy hack could transform a chaotic freezer space so dramatically — so I had to put it to the test.

What Happened When I Put a Dish Rack in My Freezer

There were a few bags of meat and packs of buns, amongst other things, that didn’t have an organized system in my freezer. They were in dire need of a proper setup that would make them easily accessible, and this trick worked wonders. I took all of the contents out of my freezer, put my dish rack inside, and then placed each item between the slots, with my loaf of bread right next to it. I was shocked at how much cleaner and more spacious my freezer drawer became! The space was once packed to the brim, and now I can see where everything is, and can even fit more items if needed.

While you can get the wire dish rack from Dollar Tree in-store, I used an unused six-tier wooden dish rack I already had in my cupboard. You can also snag a version similar to the Dollar Tree one from Amazon.

Why a Dish Rack Is the Smartest Freezer Storage Gem

This is a great hack because it’s an affordable way to implement a simple DIY shelving system in your freezer, whether it’s to divide meats, containers, or bags of veggies. You could use it as fridge storage, too. If you get a little creative, dish racks can be used to organize all over your home: Try using one to store loose mail or even digital devices in one convenient spot.

I couldn’t believe how well this simple hack worked in my small space. If you’re in need of extra space or organization in your freezer (or elsewhere in your home), this is a must-try. Work smarter, not harder!
