I’m a fan of folding clothes Marie Kondo-style and using packing cubes just as much as the next person, but of all the space-saving tricks I use, vacuum storage bags are at the top of my list. I bought a set last year to help consolidate clothes and linens for a big move, and I loved watching my belongings shrink like magic.

My only regret is that I didn’t shop at Dollar Tree — the discount store’s vacuum storage bag is comparable to other popular brands and costs just $1.25. No wonder it’s a long-time shopper favorite!

Measuring 17.5 inches by 27.5 inches, the reusable plastic bag can flatten a variety of soft, fluffy items in seconds. It’s also (crucially!) large enough to be used in many more applications than just my suitcase.

The cubes are large enough to store household closet basics such as bedding, towels, and yarn or seasonal clothing items like sweaters and snow wear. Shoppers have also used the bag to preserve keepsakes, such as wedding dresses and baby outfits. Its material is durable and waterproof, and many people say they’ve used the same bag for years.

“I’ve purchased up to 20 bags over a few visits and the only ones that didn’t stay deflated had holes that I accidentally put in them. Otherwise, they work exactly as they should,” one happy customer wrote in a review. “I have throw blankets, quilts and clothes filled in them all and they’ve stayed shrunk for weeks now! It’s such an amazing deal!”

The bag is also great for creating extra room while moving and traveling. It can create three times more space in a suitcase or a storage bin, and multiple bags can be stacked or squeezed together. While best results come from vacuuming air out of the bag through the valve, compressing the bag and its contents with your body weight can also work if you’re in a bind.

“I have bought several different brands, from several different retail stores,” another shopper wrote. “These have worked every time! They actually stay sealed. LOVE LOVE LOVE Them. I wish more Dollar trees had them!”

You can find these storage bags at your local Dollar Tree or buy them in bulk online in quantities of 36 starting at $45. Enjoy saving space and money like a packing pro!
