This Rich “Espresso Martini” Hue Is 2026’s Coziest Comeback Paint Color
While there was a ton of buzz around white as this year’s biggest color, design pros are more excited about a richer hue that’s making a big return in 2026 trends. Apartment Therapy’s own annual design survey, 2026’s State of Home Design, determined that warm neutrals would continue to dominate mood inspiration boards — and we’re already seeing that prediction come to life.
There’s a new trending color that’ll definitely convince you that dark and moody is the way to go. It’s been dubbed “Espresso Martini” brown (so close to our own moniker, “Espresso Bean”), and it’s the earthy, chocolate-y, dark brown color that fans of a pop of drama will love. Above, it’s used in a monochromatic bedroom by Aleksa Interiors that oozes cozy chic vibes.
“Espresso Martini” Brown Is Both Nostalgic and Excitingly Dramatic
The buzz around this rich take on brown is too real, as brand Maison Flâneur shared a roundup of luxurious Espresso Martini interiors, stating in an Instagram caption that the color is “where velvet meets two-toned chocolate,” and is “a haven for those who adore opulent, indulgent spaces.”
The fact that this deep, dark brown color is commanding style trends isn’t exactly new. In fact, Apartment Therapy editors saw it picking up steam as early as 2024; this hotel-inspired apartment in Austin, for example, features a built-in speakeasy painted with Behr Dynasty’s Rave Raisin, described as “a spicy brown with warm undertones, awakening coziness, and childhood nostalgia.”
It feels dark, mysterious, moody, and mysterious — everything a speakeasy should be.
But an espresso martini-inspired brown can also be used as an accent color to allow other pieces and colors to shine. A Houston couple used a take on “Espresso Martini” brown in their bedroom to highlight their kitschy decor. It sets the mood while also playing up the vintage feel of the space; brown tones were big in the ’60s and ’70s.
Even if your aesthetic leans more modern, classic, or traditional, “Espresso Martini” brown can still be part of your 2026 reno vision board.
Because it’s a neutral (albeit a bold one), a deep brown pairs beautifully with brass, creams, beige, wood tones, and marble, as is the case in this NYC bathroom. When paired with timeless accessories, the color doesn’t feel so dramatic, but rather cozy, comforting, and ageless.
No matter which direction you take this “Espresso Martini” trend in 2026 (whether you color drench or just use it as an accent!), it’s going to bring some huge personality to your space.
