A ‘Fixer Upper’ Reboot Is Coming to Chip and Jo’s TV Network
Ring the alarm: “Fixer Upper” is getting rebooted!
The beloved HGTV series helmed by Chip and Joanna Gaines is heading back to TV screens, Deadline reports. But this time, it’ll be on the couple’s very own Magnolia Network.
“The day we wrapped our final episode of ‘Fixer Upper,’ we really believed it was a chapter closed. We knew we needed a break and a moment to catch our breath. But we also knew we weren’t done dreaming about ways to make old things new again,” Chip and Joanna Gaines told Deadline in a statement. “These past few years, we’ve continued tackling renovations and projects, doing the work we’re passionate about, but I don’t think either of us anticipated how the show would become such a permanent fixture in our hearts. We’ve missed sharing the stories of these families and their homes with you, and we’re excited to do that again very soon!”
According to Magnolia Network President President Allison Page, Chip and Joanna surprised executives a few weeks ago with their announcement that they were willing to bring back the ratings behemoth, which ran for five seasons on HGTV. The announcement was unexpected, particularly since the couple previously stated that they didn’t want their next project to just be “Fixer Upper 2.0.”
“We had not been planning with this network to include ‘Fixer Upper,’” said Page. “When they said good-bye to the show three years ago next month, they said they needed a break but as it turns out—and thankfully—a break is literally what it was. We did not expect it or see it coming, and it’s a wonderful wonderful surprise. ‘Fixer Upper’ is a cultural phenomenon that took an entire programming category by storm when it launched in 2014, and we can think of no better way to launch this network.”
Expected to launch in early 2021 (it was pushed back from October due to the coronavirus) Magnolia has been recruiting some high-level talent for their network, which is taking over Discovery’s DIY Channel. Several projects are in development, including an untitled program featuring self-taught interior designer Brian Patrick Flynn, and “Self Employed,” with entrepreneur Jonathan Morris, who viewers will see traveling the United States as he meets inspiring small business owners. There are ten other original unscripted series on the network’s inaugural slate, according to Deadline.
“Fixer Upper” ran its series finale in April of 2018. Super fans who can’t wait for their fresh dose of Chip and Jo can check out the Magnolia Network’s behind-the-scenes digital series, “Road to Launch: Magnolia Network,” when it heads online later this month.
Despite the big news, Chip and Joanna Gaines are showing no signs of slowing down the expansion of their empire. In addition to re-upping “Fixer Upper,” the couple have made some major announcements in the last year, ranging from their expanded line at Target and six new stores at the Magnolia Silos to buying a castle in Waco.
