Peek Inside This Frank Lloyd Wright-Inspired Portland Home That’s Under $600K
This could be considered the next best thing to owning an original Frank Lloyd Wright-designed property: a house inspired by the renowned architect’s approach to architecture. The dwelling we’re referencing is a Portland, Oregon home designed by architect Stephen Mayer. Completed in 1957, the residence at 3620 NE Liberty Street pays homage to Wright’s iconic midcentury aesthetic.
At 2,192 square feet, the three-bedroom, two-bath Pacific Northwest home fits neatly into the time capsule category as it still maintains many of its original details. The FLW-inspired pad owes its retro feel to its vertical grain fir wood paneled walls, a cantilevered concrete hearth, skylights and original lighting fixtures. Among the replaced accessories are the appliances, countertops and flooring, which help to freshen up the space without diminishing the charm and nostalgia associated with original design elements. The home features an open layout and is filled with large windows that sufficiently illuminate the space. A floating shelf divides the living area and kitchen, which has floor-to-ceiling windows that open onto a backyard patio. The home has two fireplaces, one in the living area and one in a downstairs recreation space.

Considering the fact that the Gordon House is the only Wright-designed structure built in Oregon, it would seem that this home would’ve generated a reasonable amount of interest from the general public, but the late owner of the residence opted out of opening it up for architectural tours. For a more extensive look inside the house, there is a 3D virtual tour on Living Room Realty. The current asking price is $595,000.
Six decades after his passing, residences and buildings from FLW’s architectural portfolio are still in high demand. In fact, the designer’s famous “Boulter House” in Clifton, Ohio, is set to hit the market later this month for $695,000.
