My electric range stove and oven had been on its last leg for months. It was over a decade old (it was there when my husband and I first moved into our home three years ago) and worked just fine enough. But, the control knobs were long gone (you would just have to know which was high and low!), the oven light went out regularly, and the oven door would become slightly ajar every time we heated it past 350 degrees.

I’d tell myself that we’d get to replacing it eventually, but since it still “worked,” it wasn’t a high priority. So, I was left daydreaming about the perfect replacement. I love to bake and my husband loves to cook, so we use our stove and oven almost daily. Then, I got the opportunity to test the GE ENERGY STAR 30″ Free-Standing Electric Convection Range with No Preheat Air Fry and EasyWash Oven Tray, and I was over the moon.

I’ve been testing it for two months now and can confidently say that it’s changed my life. You might be wondering how that’s even possible or that I’m exaggerating, but trust me, I couldn’t have asked for a better replacement. Read on for my full review.

Design Features That Stand Out

The GE Free-Standing Electric Convection Range, which measures 47 1/4″ height x 30″ width x 27 7/8″ depth, is an Energy Star-rated appliance that comes in stainless steel, black, white, and slate colors. It has express preheat and no preheat air fry, fresh reheat, and pizza time-saving features, as well as a large capacity oven (5.3 cubic foot) and an oven storage drawer at the very bottom.

The reason I was most interested in this specific range is because of the EasyWash Oven Tray, which is an enameled tray at the bottom of the oven that you can simply take out, rinse, and then put back. It’s also dishwasher-safe and fits all GE Appliances dishwashers. A small feature, you might say, but as someone who regularly uses their oven, it felt like a luxury.

Another feature that stood out? It has built-in WiFi. Using the SmartHQ app, you’re able to control certain functions (like remote preheat), monitor and change temperatures, and even turn off your oven. While the removable tray was what sold me on the GE Free-Standing Electric Convection Range originally, it was this feature that changed my life.

How It Performed

Everything about the GE Free-Standing Electric Convection Range checked the boxes in terms of performance. The electric range has four burners and a fifth element warming zone in the middle — with easy-to-use controls at the top. The convection oven is large and has a lot of smart no preheat or express preheat features. I haven’t tried them all, but the express preheat feature works fast (seven minutes!).

The EasyWash Oven Tray really is easy and eliminates any lingering crumbs at the bottom of your oven that may burn up. You simply take it out, wash it with soap and water, dry it, then put it back. You can add this to your monthly oven cleaning routine.

What We Loved

  • Sleek Design: This range comes in four beautiful finishes (I went with stainless steel to match my other appliances), has a large oven with a sleek interior, and a big storage drawer at the bottom to hide pans and trays.
  • Smart Features: Overall, the GE Free-Standing Electric Convection Range boasts great oven features, from the express or no preheat functions to other smart capabilities.
  • EasyWash Oven Tray: Even if you’re not a big baker like me, the removable oven tray is so brilliant. It makes taking care of your oven easier than ever.
  • Built-in WiFi: As I mentioned, this feature ended up being the one I loved most. You can control and see everything from your phone, including whether or not your appliance is on or off. If you’re someone like me, who on occasion has some fears of leaving their stove or other appliances on before heading out, this feature is a total game-changer. I never leave my house in doubt now, and honesty, this feature alone is reason enough to get this convection range.

Good to Know

I haven’t had the chance to fully test all of the preheat features, but so far, I’ve been really enjoying this appliance. I’m not alone in my love for the GE Free-Standing Electric Convection Range. Other reviews on the website noted that “the controls are intuitive” and that “the oven tray is easy to remove, making it easy to clean up spills or burnt on oven stains.” Some called it an “excellent stove” and that GE “hit a home run” with it.
