Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik’s Daughter Has a Retro Accessory in Her Nursery
Retro home goods are making a comeback. Just ask model Gigi Hadid, who revealed that her newborn daughter, Khai, whom she welcomed with partner Zayn Malik last September, has the most retro nursery item of all: a pink VHS player. Hadid recently shared insights on her daughter’s nursery in her March cover interview with Vogue, where she also revealed that she had a 14-hour home birth at her residence in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
According to Hadid, Malik purchased the retro pink VHS player so his daughter could watch Disney cartoons and his favorite Bollywood films on cassette. The model maintained that if the two had welcomed a boy, the nursery would be decked out in a superhero theme. Instead, it’s currently decorated with a macramé cloud mobile, a rattan changing basket, embroidered pillows from Anthropologie, and a framed poem that Malik penned for Khai.
“I’ve been popping off on Etsy,” Hadid told the magazine. “I really wanted to be working toward something, and the nursery really helped me feel like we were ready.” Other items in the nursery? A Versace sweatshirt from “Auntie Donatella” Versace and a hand sewn teddy bear from Taylor Swift, made out of one of the singer’s own dresses. “It’s misshapen, and she called it Ugly Bear,” Hadid explained. “She had one when she was little.”
As for that home birth, the decision to forgo the hospital came after the couple watched the 2008 documentary “The Business of Being Born,” which examines less conventional forms of childbirth. “What I really wanted from my experience was to feel like, OK, this is a natural thing that women are meant to do,” she said. Malik caught their daughter. “It didn’t even click that she was out,” Hadid said. “I was so exhausted, and I looked up and he’s holding her. It was so cute.”
The Vogue March issue featuring Hadid is available now.
