When it comes to kitchen design, everyone has an opinion on what works and what doesn’t — especially HGTV experts. From what to paint your cabinets next, to whether or not you should have opening shelving (the Property Brothers feel strongly about this one), HGTV designers always share what’s on their mind. And for the hosts of HGTV’s “Battle on the Beach” — which has its season finale on Sunday, August 15 — there are a lot of thoughts on all-white kitchens.

In a recent interview with Apartment Therapy, Ty Pennington, Alison Victoria, and Taniya Nayak were all asked the same question: how do you feel about an all-white kitchen? And all three of them had different answers, proving that there’s no right answer other than whatever works best for you and your home.

Pennington expressed that while there’s nothing wrong with going all white, it’s best paired with a little bit of color. “I just redid my kitchen in Savannah, and I went with a really dark blue that’s almost black,” Pennington mentioned. “I think that sort of richness — if you can work it in with the whites — looks so good.” He finished by saying that rich greens or blues on cabinets adds elegance, and even if the rest of the kitchen is white, that pop of color goes a long way.

Victoria, on the other hand, is all about saying yes to an all-white kitchen because it’s timeless and will never go out of style. “White is a really great foundation because you can bring color in with your backsplash, countertops, lighting, hood, and appliances,” Victoria said. “Kitchens are the most expensive room in the house, so you need to make sure they’re timeless and layerable and that you can change them over time without breaking the bank.”

Nayak was the last to share her opinion and settle this tiebreaker, and while she didn’t technically pick one over the other, she seemed align more with Victoria. “I love an unexpected surprise, like on a backsplash, or a stained walnut that ties in with the beautiful leather-finished stone top,” Victoria shared. “I’m all for texture and a monochromatic vibe because I do love to bring in accents and hardware or a phenomenal light fixture to tie in the space.”

So there you have it folks: one question, three HGTV expert opinions. And while there are pros and cons to an all-white kitchen, the most important thing to remember is the decision is yours (you’re the one who has to live with it, after all).
