The 2018 HGTV Dream Home, perched on a waterfront site near Seattle that overlooks the Puget Sound, is full of ideas worth stealing for your own home. While taking a (virtual) tour, we spotted a particularly ingenious solution, a charming way to add more storage to your space without taking up any floor space at all.
The idea? Hang baskets on the wall. I've always been a fan of baskets for organization, since they're particularly good for corralling items that don't seem to have a place anywhere else. You can free up floor space by hanging them on the wall, and create an inexpensive wall shelf that adds texture and interest to your space.
This is a particularly good solution for throws or extra pillows, and I can see it working well in a bathroom, as well—just roll up your towels and place them inside. (For an easy-to-follow tutorial on how to actually hang them up well enough to hold anything, check out this post we found on The Kim Six Fix, who added baskets to her bathroom for storage.)
If you like the look of baskets hanging on the wall but want your storage to be a bit more concealed, look for baskets that are flatter and particularly suited for hanging on the wall, like these fishing baskets spotted on The Marion House Book. You can find vintage fishing baskets on Etsy, or try these wall baskets from World Market.
This photo from Martha Stewart brings together two of everyone's favorite organizing powerhouses: baskets and pegboard. Pegboard hooks will catch on to baskets and hold them securely in place—and you can create arrangements of multiple baskets on one wall, and change them up to suit your organizing needs.
But my favorite application for wall baskets is this one from Schwedenhacker, where a wall basket provides a home for a furry feline friends. (Make sure you attach it securely to the wall!) That cat looks so comfy in there, I wouldn't mind having one for myself.
