Why You Should Keep a “No-Reason” Group Text Going With Your Best Friends
Texting may seem impersonal at times, but for many of us it’s the easiest way to stay in touch with the people we care about most of the time. And if you’re part of a tight-knit group of friends, being a part of a group text from time to time is pretty much inevitable. Those group texts don’t have to be for specific events (like planning a party for someone) — actually, being in a long-term, no-reason group chat with your friends can have some awesome benefits.
You’ll have an instant support system
Those days when you’re feeling a little down? Instead of gushing all your feels to one person, you can text your core group of friends at once and let them know you need to vent. One or all of them will likely be able to offer you the support you need — and you’ll be there to do the same for them, when they need it.
It’s a great way to get several opinions at once
A group text full of friends you trust is a great way to get second opinions when you’re second guessing yourself. Whether you need recommendations for a new doctor, can’t decide what shoes to buy, are unsure of how to ask out someone you’re interested in, or even need help workshopping a funny tweet (my group text is especially great at that), having easy access to the opinions of the people you care about can be super helpful. Sure, you could text a bunch of people the same thing separately, but doing it in a group text means you’ll actually get to engage in a discussion with all of them, and you can all bounce ideas off each other.
Making plans will be so much easier
For those days when you have last-minute free time and want to do something spontaneous, texting your group at once can help you quickly see who’s free and who’s not so you can make plans. And when you want to hang out with the whole group? No need to text everyone separately and try to corral everyone into one place at one time — they’re already there, and you can easily work out what works best for everyone in the group together.
You can talk through serious problems
My group chat has been great for talking through major life changes and problems — for example, when members of the group faced work issues like needing to negotiate a salary or being laid off unexpectedly, we were all able to help each other figure out what to do. If you or your friends have any serious issues you need help with, you can turn to your group text for help.
You’ll never be short on laughter
On the flip side, having a group chat with the people you already love spending time around means that you’ll have a never-ending supply of laughter one text away. You can even dedicate entire group chats just to sending each other jokes, memes and funny stories — I’ve been in groups like this as well, and it never fails to brighten up my day.
Do you have group chats going with your core groups of friends? How does it help you to get through the day?
