IKEA is often my first stop when searching for affordable home furnishings and decor. But it wasn’t really the first place I thought of when on the hunt for more permanent fixtures, like lighting — until now. Browsing the site last week for a new table lamp or wall sconce, I came across IKEA’s new AKTERSPRING pendant lamp, and it was love at first sight.

I wasn’t necessarily in the market for a new light fixture, but this one was too good to ignore. And at just under $130 (while perhaps on the pricier side for IKEA), it’s an amazing price for such a nice-looking piece compared with some other similar styles I’ve seen. The design combines both modern and vintage elements, making the AKTERPRING pendant perfect for so many different spaces, too.

What Is the AKTERSPRING Pendant Lamp?

IKEA’s AKTERSPRING lamp is a chandelier-style fixture that features three milk glass shades attached to a delicate brass-plated metal frame. The glass shades feature delicate fluting and are handblown by skilled artisans, according to IKEA’s site. The fixture is suspended by luxe-looking beige textile cords that keep the design feeling light, modern, and airy.

Like I said, this is a pendant light fixture that needs to be hardwired, but the extra work is worth it for a piece like this. The chandelier is a perfect statement piece for any room but would look especially good in a dining room above a circular table. It won’t collect too much dust like so many other ceiling fixtures, and I do love milk glass for overhead lighting as it provides a lovely, soft diffusion of light perfect for a cozy feel.

Why We Love It

The first thing that caught my eye was the AKTERSPRING’s beautiful design, sure — it certainly stands out from the rest of IKEA’s light fixtures as a fun and trendy new addition — but what sealed the deal was the price. I found many pieces out there that look similar, but none at an even remotely similar price point to IKEA’s. The $130 price is a great investment for a more permanent piece of decor, especially one that commands as much attention in a room as a chandelier does.

Though it doesn’t have any reviews from U.S.-based customers yet, international IKEA fans have weighed in: One happy customer from Finland says, “It’s a lamp worth the price. Easy to assemble and beautiful.” And from Spain, another 5-star review states: “[This piece] mixes elegance with warmth and modernity. It looks beautiful.” I couldn’t agree more.

If you can’t get your hands on the AKTERSPRING but still love the look, there are alternative styles that have a similar effect. This model from Amazon is most similar, but note that it is more than double the price of IKEA’s version.

I have a feeling this gorgeous fixture might sell out soon, so treat your ceiling to some bling and try it out ASAP. I love this new AKTERSPRING lighting line — we covered the AKTERSPRING table lamp as well earlier this summer — and I hope IKEA continues to expand upon it soon. More AKTERSPRING? For spring? Groundbreaking.
