If you want a new look in your living room, you have a lot of options for how you can change things up. Painting the walls is a favorite starting point for many DIYers (and provides really dramatic results!), and so is adding fresh art or switching up throw pillows. But there’s another project that can transform your space that’s easier than you may think: Changing up your lighting. And this vintage-inspired IKEA pendant shade is the perfect pick.

IKEA’S DYKARKLOCKA pendant shade is part of the company’s retro re-releases: Products from the archives that are being introduced, sometimes under new names, to 2024 audiences. In the case of this gorgeous tiered oak veneer pendant shade, the design was pulled straight from the 1964 IKEA catalog (where it was called the much-easier-to-say TIVOLI).

I have bought a few lamps from IKEA in the past, and I’ve always felt they looked more expensive than they actually were. But this one, with its natural wood finish and simple-with-a-twist shape, could pass for a mid-century piece from a fancy designer showroom. And unlike those high-end pieces, this retails for under $100 ($69.99, to be exact).

What I like about this pendant shade is the fact that it’s just that: a shade. That gives you the ultimate flexibility in installation. If you feel ready to hardwire a new pendant light in your living room, you can snag a cord set from IKEA for just $10. But if you want an easy, renter-friendly project, reach instead for a plug-in cord set (also $10).

The wood veneer doesn’t offer the same level of brightness as glass pendants, so this shade is a fit for anywhere you want to add cozy, warm vibes (one reviewer calls this light “atmospheric”). That would include a living room for sure, but also a bedroom or a dining room. And great news: Right now, the DYKARKLOCKA pendant light is available for delivery, pickup, and in-store shopping.
