This $20 IKEA Hack Doubles the Storage of a Simple Side Table (It Looks So High-End!)

No matter how large or small your home is, strategically maximizing space is always a good idea. And one Instagram user found a brilliant way to do just that by hacking her $20 IKEA GLADOM table and doubling the storage — by simply adding another IKEA find to the equation.

In a video shared by the IKEA Hack account, Anna from Our Home Style is seen styling the GLADOM’s tray-style top at the bottom of the table, and then filling that spot with an additional tray, IKEA’s SKALA style, for two tiers of storage and one stylish piece. She also incorporated a neutral-toned woven basket (similar to the TJABBIG or FLÅDIS) to tuck away additional throw blankets. 

“@our_home_style_ shared her IKEA GLADOM table hack, breathing new life into an old piece with functionality and style,” the caption of the IKEA Hack post reads. “By replacing the tabletop with a SKALA tray table and incorporating a basket for extra storage, she transformed it into a versatile solution that perfectly suits her space.”

If you don’t already have one, GLADOM tables are so easy to find secondhand if you search your local online marketplaces and thrift stores. You can also grab them new on IKEA’s website for just under $20. They come in three colors: black, white, and gray, which costs a bit more money, but you can also spray paint the GLADOM table to better match your aesthetic.

Then, like Anna did, you can pick up a SKALA birch wood tray to use as a replacement top, having moved the original GLADON top to the bottom rack. This tray is a beautiful neutral light wood tone, but can also be painted a different color, too.

You can use your new IKEA hack table with a blanket basket, as Anna did, or find new fun ways to put that new shelf at the bottom of your table to use — like stacking books, displaying a potted plant, or even containing your cable box or video game console
