IKEA’s $2 Phone Stand Can Easily Turn Into a Gorgeous Coffee-Table Storage Gem
Some people are extremely talented at figuring out how to use home items in ways other than their intended purpose — for example, using a toilet paper holder as a vase. I’m striving to fine-tune this skill, but in the meantime, I found another unexpected transformation that costs just $2 and can be found at IKEA.
Instagram user Canan (@interior_by_canik) saw the HǑNSNÄT phone holder at IKEA and thought it would also make an awesome matchstick holder — with a built-in striker!
How Did the IKEA HǑNSNÄT Turn Into a Match Holder?
The HǑNSNÄT from IKEA is a combination phone stand and pencil holder made out of a natural-toned molded paper material. It’s meant to prop your phone up while on a desk or side table so you can more easily see the screen. The well at the back of the phone holder is deep and wide enough to hold pencils, pens, markers, or even paintbrushes, making it ideal for use in a studio space.
To make the match holder, Canan shows in the video how she cut the striker off of the box and glued it between the two grooves on the phone holder, so now she can easily just grab a match (from an IKEA pack!), strike it, and light her favorite candle. For well under $5, she now has a trendy-looking match station that’s cute enough to keep out on the coffee table.
Because the HǑNSNÄT is incredibly affordable, it’s definitely something you should pick up on your next IKEA run. However, you can actually turn any vessel into a match holder and striker, as TikTok taught us a couple of years ago, and that means you’ll never look at any trinket box, phone holder, or really anything else that has potential the same way again!
