I hate to admit it, but my fridge has been a mess for years. Occasionally I’ll recognize the need for a deep clean and will pull everything out, but generally speaking I won’t notice the parsley going bad until I grab it in the vegetable drawer for a certain recipe, hoping that its curly leaves are still crisp and fresh. (Hint: They almost never are.)

My lack of attention to the refrigerator shows up not only in the visual clutter, but also in my grocery bill. My husband is always angling to get us to use what we have in order to reduce food and financial waste, but it’s awfully hard to see what we have when the miso paste is hiding behind bread, and produce is tucked away in drawers. There was no rhyme or reason to my fridge — until IKEA’s handy KLIPPKAKTUS fridge storage boxes came into my life.

What Are the IKEA KLIPPKAKTUS Fridge Storage Boxes?

IKEA’s new $29.99 KLIPPKAKTUS fridge storage boxes are a total game-changer for kitchen organization. The set of six is made of recycled PET plastic and contains three different sizes: 5 quarts, 3 quarts, and 2 quarts. The largest is big enough to hold bulky produce, like lettuce and broccoli, the medium-sized container is great for bell peppers, jams, or jellies, and the four smaller boxes are perfect for cherry tomatoes, snap peas, cherries, or other small items. Each bin comes with a matching lid.

Another handy feature is the built-in handle under which you can tuck a note with the storage date, so you can easily keep track of how old your produce or other items are. Plus, cleaning them is a cinch. I just hand-wash mine with some mild dish soap and wipe dry with a soft cloth, and I’m good to go.

What’s So Great About the IKEA KLIPPKAKTUS Fridge Storage Boxes?

The set is designed so that all the boxes stack and nest when not in use, and you can arrange them however works best for your fridge or pantry; you could even achieve a look that’s magazine-worthy. I’m looking forward to filling more shelves with the various sizes, so that I can have that satisfying feeling of seeing everything ordered when I open my fridge. You can also get the storage boxes individually starting at $4.99.

Until I spotted these, I assumed fridge organization was for other people and that I was destined to search through crowded drawers and mismatched jars, breaking a few along the way, to find what I was looking for forever. Prepping for a meal is now so much easier, as I can see exactly what I’m looking for. With our family’s newfound fridge storage system inspired by the KLIPPKAKTUS boxes, we’re wasting far less food, and the refrigerator is so much easier on the eyes. I’m never going back!
