IKEA Just Launched a Small-Space-Friendly $35 Dining Chair, and I’m Shocked at How Expensive It Looks
If you’ve ever shopped for dining chairs, you may have noticed that they’re really expensive. Multiply one price point by two, four, six (or more!) and it very quickly adds up to a wildly high number. Finding a stylish-meets-comfy-meets-affordable chair can feel like mission impossible — that is, until now. IKEA has upped their dining chair game by launching the ÖSTANÖ dining chair, a sleek, modern, and comfortable seat for just $35 a piece.
When I saw the price of these chairs, I was honestly more than a little shook. So much so that I hot-footed it down to my nearest IKEA, expecting the chairs to look, well, a bit flimsy. Trust me when I say the phrase “you get what you pay for” doesn’t apply to the ÖSTANÖ dining chairs. Beyond its modern-yet-timeless visual appeal, the metal frame feels sturdy, and the soft, upholstered back and seat ensure they’re backside-friendly for dinner parties and family meals.
These chairs are especially ideal for small-space dwellers; their slim frame means you might even be able to squeeze six around a generous four-seater table. In the tightest of quarters, the chairs are comfy enough to double as office chairs or spare seating anywhere — say, in a living room or bedroom even. The two colors currently offered are cleverly chosen to cater to a range of decor tastes. The red-brown is bold enough for those who prefer a livelier look, yet it’s muted enough for subtler tastes. The black will pair with practically any interior style and color palette. They just look like something you’d find at a much more expensive modern home-decor retailer, and I’m not mad at that.
Brand-new and largely undiscovered so far, there aren’t many reviews for this chair. The handful that do exist couldn’t be more glowing, though, with the average at a full five stars. Although not described by IKEA as stackable, according to reviewers, the chairs do stack — an unexpected bonus, especially for smaller dwellings. What’s more, one clever shopper has repurposed these designs as stools by keeping the backrest off of them during assembly. Talk about an easy IKEA hack!
The ÖSTANÖ checks all the boxes for me and then some, all for an unbelievably tiny price tag. That’s why I ran to my local big blue for some of my own.
