IKEA is such a mainstay of contemporary dorm rooms, first apartments, and family homes that it can be easy to forget that the brand actually goes back decades — over 80 years, in fact! Back when the brand celebrated their 80th anniversary in 2023, they created the Nytillverkad collection. This line of re-issued products pulled from their archives features vintage-inspired classics that were beloved in the brand’s earlier years, but are equally fitting for 2023.

IKEA has been adding products to this line since then, but it’s also been rotating things out and sending them into (second) retirement. One of the items currently marked as “last chance to buy” on the site is the simple PRIMÄRSKOG wood plant stand, which is currently priced at 40% off while products last.

What Is the PRIMÄRSKOG Wood Plant Stand?

According to the IKEA listing, the PRIMÄRSKOG plant stand was first introduced in 1962 as the STREGA, and it’s easy to see why the design appealed to mid-century shoppers. The clean, simple shape of the piece is a perfect complement to other mid-century modern decor (and it’s all the better for making lush plants the star of the show).

While the planter definitely has natural MCM vibes, I think it’s actually pretty versatile — especially if you’re open to a little IKEA hacking. With a solid pine construction, the PRIMÄRSKOG plant stand is ideal for both paint and stain (although you’ll need to remove the clear lacquer coat first). A whitewashed finish could make this a fit for cottagecore or farmhouse-style spaces; a coat of slick black paint would make it fit in with glam decor; and a bright color could make this minimalist planter work for maximalists, too.

The planter’s original price was already a bargain at $54.99; now, with the discount, you can score it for just $32.99. Grab one to house your cutting garden, or snag a pair to plant a patio veggie garden — but move fast! This deal lasts until June 30, or while supplies last.
