IKEA Has Revealed the First Two Products In Its Collection With Sabine Marcelis
IKEA and Rotterdam-based designer Sabine Marcelis want to embrace the potential of light at home and explore its positive impact on wellbeing through its much-anticipated VARMBLIXT collection. An inaugural mood-boosting light collection was announced in fall 2021 and now, the first two products in the collaboration have been revealed at the 2022 Milan Design Week.
The first products in the collection will be two signature LED wall lamps that will not only capture the warmth of VARMBLIXT as a whole, but also add to the artistic value of the home. When the lamps are turned on, they emit a warm light that changes the look and feel of your room; when turned off, they are beautiful sculptural objects that will make a statement wherever they are placed. The lamps can be mounted both horizontally or vertically and can be grouped with more lamps as an eye-catching installation in your home.
“As a designer, I am inspired by sculptural lighting and objects in the home that serve more than their functional needs but add to the artistic value of home,” Marcelis said in a press release. “With VARMBLIXT, I want people to connect more with their homes and consider elements such as lighting which enlighten our atmosphere in a simplistic yet sophisticated way.”
The collaboration explores light and the feeling of warmth with solutions such as light and home furnishing in their form, and their emotional value in how they are placed within our space. As part of a long-term goal, IKEA is looking to shift its approach and put more focus on how lighting can impact moods as well as well as being a functional product in the home.
“The first-ever sneak peek of the VARMBLIXT collection spotlights a meaningful collaboration where we hope to inspire the many on the impact of emotional lighting,” comments Henrik Most, Creative Leader at IKEA of Sweden. “Together with Sabine’s artistic vision of design we are excited to bring a collection that will truly add a sense of warmth and duality to our homes.”
IKEA will reveal the full collection in the coming months. VARMBLIXT will be available from spring 2023.
