If you’re someone who finds horoscopes scarily accurate most days, then you’re likely in tune with your zodiac profile — particularly your Sun sign. But what many might not realize is that your Sun sign (the astrological sign the sun occupied in the sky at the time of your birth, tied to your dominant personality) carries certain associations that translate into color psychology

In fact, astrologers suggest that particular colors may have an indirect influence on your mood. These color associations may also influence how you present yourself outwardly, especially socially, when you’re trying to put your best foot forward.

Why not dress the ultimate hosting space in your home in a color that brings out your best traits? Below, a pair of astrologers break down each zodiac’s inherent characteristics and the colors that they’re associated with, all highlighted by Apartment Therapy-approved paint recommendations for your living rooms

Some of these pairings may be surprising, but if you’re true to your zodiac sign, they’ll only be a boon for your social prowess.

Out of all the groups on this list, the Earth zodiac signs are probably the easiest for you to suss out — think of the group’s hallmark, after all. “The name is Earth, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that these signs are closely aligned with built-to-last colors,” explains Murphy. “These colors are sensual, in a way, but grounded and connected to nature. They help to bring the outdoors in, when you think about it.”

Caiola adds that, above all, Earth zodiac signs tend to gravitate towards colors that are practical. The colors at hand are muted, cool in nature, and tend to be tactile, in that living rooms dressed in these colors are inviting. This group is connected to colors that represent pleasure and beauty. In most cases, that translates to different shades of green.

Taurus: Moss Green

Those with Sun signs in Taurus are connected to earthy greens and browns, blush pink, and taupe, Caiola explains. Other potential living room colors that help ground these folks include terracotta and coral pink.

“[Taurus’] can play with greens that I think are a little bit more on the vibrant side of things; mixing that with some light pinks, and anything that just feels like you’re in a jungle, that energy,” adds Murphy.

This sign is drawn to pale green, muted beige, and clay-like colors, Caiola says, adding that alternatives for a great living room color include dusty blue and off-white neutrals. That’s likely because Virgo prefers minimalist palettes: “Virgo thrives in clarity, simplicity, and ritual; their palettes can be a bit more neutral than others in this group,” Murphy explains.

Capricorn: Charcoal Green

Seen as more refined than other signs in their group, Capricorn is aligned with olive green, burgundy, and slate gray, according to Caiola. These individuals embrace darker neutrals more than others.

“Anything that’s cool, toned, and signals elegance,” adds Murphy. “Capricorn takes elements from their group but builds it into another level of elegance, focusing on colors that feel rich; definitely quality over quantity.”

Equally preceded by their namesake reputation, Caiola says people with their Sun in Aries, Sagittarius, or Leo are immediately attracted to colors that are bold, expressive, and passionate. And that doesn’t always translate into a single color, either; this group may feel comfortable leaning into color blocking and even mixing in patterns with a statement wall in the living room.

“They’re all about boldness — no matter which sign it is, fire signs are bold and full on in their expression. They really embody that individuality of, ‘I am who I am,’” Murphy explains. “These are the people whose living rooms are so fully not cookie-cutter; they’re not doing minimalist, not even quiet luxury.”

Aries: Crimson Red

Unsurprisingly, Aries feel drawn to the most dramatic of reds and sunset-tinted oranges; they embrace hot pinks and flame-adjacent hues, Caiola says.

“I think red is the Aries’ calling card. It’s the spark of the zodiac; it’s ruled by Mars, how could we not think of red?” Murphy asks. “My Aries moodboard for living rooms is all red, some pops of pink, electric scarlets, and bold reds. Their desires are really unfiltered, full of ashen energy.”

Leo: Marigold Yellow

Those in Leo Suns are truest to their zodiac, feeling empowered and emboldened by golden yellow hues, Caiola explains, as well as anything that symbolizes their regalness — including royal purple.

“Leo is solar-powered,” Murphy explains. “And I think gold colors are a really fun play on that fact; despite being the center of their universe, gold and yellow is really warm, which connects us to Leo.”

Sagittarius: Amethyst Purple

The black sheep of Fire signs when it comes to color psychology, Sagittarius leans into vibrant, vivid, and moody purples and pinks, including magenta, Caiola says.

“What’s true for Sagittarius? Their living rooms are ones you walk into and are like, wow. This person is so well-traveled — and even the color is giving peacock,” adds Murphy. “It’s just something completely different, and the color makes you want to know more about this person.”

Naturally social by nature, Air signs are known to be expressive by astrologers like Caiola. Those associated with these signs are known to want to create spaces that foster connection, above all else.

“Their living room is going to be booked, blessed, and busy, because these people are the communicators,” Murphy adds. “They’re chatterers, creatives, the change-makers. They have all the things going on and so these colors tend to be very crisp, airy, and very bright, a place where people naturally want to be.”

Gemini: Sky Blue

Caiola shares that other colors that speak to the social butterfly that Geminis are include light yellows, mint greens, and soft silvers — all cheery, bright colors that invite people in.

“I think about the seasons that make up the time of year in Gemini, which include May and June — when you look up at that cheery spring sky, you’re like, ‘Oh my god, yes, life is good again,’” Murphy adds.

Libra: Soft Pink

Caiola cites Libra’s quest for beauty in life as a natural draw to many blush tones and pastel colors, including muted pinks, periwinkle, rose gold, and ivory.

“Many of the air signs respond to blue colors — but the departure in that is Libra. They’re very elevated, ruled by Venus, and very into aesthetics,” Murphy explains. “Their living rooms are maybe a little bit the old-money look — lots of pastel pinks, pearly creams, and soft, light tones.”

Aquarius: Electric Blue

Because of their eccentric and unique nature, many Aquarius gravitate towards vivid, eye-popping colors that ultimately aim to entertain you. Caiola adds that other go-to colors for this sign may include turquoise and metallic tones.

“Aquarius brings the alien genius, and they tend to be very futuristic,” Murphy shares. “Their room is going to glow; you’ll feel that [you] aren’t standing in an everyday living room. Expect shapes, lines, and more than just functional furniture.”

Known for being in touch with their emotions, Water zodiac signs are drawn to shades that are dramatic and captivating, reflecting a beautifully moody interior. Caiola adds that these colors tend to span darker shades of blue that are sometimes associated with Air signs.

“These signs are the feelers, the intuitive bunch … no matter what space, or whatever color they choose, it’s going to be something that is very calming,” Murphy says. “These colors get in touch with some sort of emotion, a feeling of safety. Water signs are really tied to all those things — the unseen emotions, spirituality, and memories.”

Cancer: Ivory White

Despite a reputation for feeling all the feelings, Caiola says that the colors associated with Cancer verge into neutrals; soft blues, seafoam, and sand all come to mind.

“The Cancerian energy translates into a really beachy look; soft, seashell pinks and silvers, pearlescent whites of a beach,” Murphy adds. “I think their color energy is captured by the most beautiful, lovely beach, finding a seashell; it’s not pink, but it’s not white, it’s a soft meld of both.”

Scorpio: Dark Teal

If anyone is likely to go for a color-drenched living room, it’s Scorpio — Caiola says these passionate folk align with deep navy, charcoal gray, burgundy, and black.

“Scorpio energy translates to a color that is very rich, deep, and complex; a dark and mysterious academia vibe is what I’m envisioning. It’s like, are we in Harry Potter?” Murphy jokes. “It’s dark, it’s captivating and it’s enchanting; it gives a bit of bewitching, ancient tavern vibes.”

Pisces: Lilac Purple

Finally, we have Pisces, a creative sign that isn’t afraid to embrace the unconventional; Caiola says they feel drawn to rainbow-like hues, including oceanic blues, iridescent colors, and opalescent finishes.

“Pisces is an old soul, but also the baby energy of the Zodiac. These colors feel ethereal, creative, almost like a child-like energy,” Murphy adds. “You’ll ask yourself: How did they pull this off? Every Pisces I know has some element in their living room that captures a rainbow, a prism of light, or some novelty … you’ll just want to play here and be in touch with that energy.”
