Michael Jackson’s Former NYC Townhouse Is On the Market for $39M

Here’s a thriller of a real estate listing—this Upper East Side mansion is the former home of the King of Pop himself, Michael Jackson.

Currently owned by billionaire Marc Lasry, the hedge fund manager bought the E 74th Street property back in 2001 for $11 million, according to the New York Post.

Before modern billionaires, though, the manse has served as home for quite the illustrious list of residents. The Post states:

Its first occupant, in 1901, was Francis Lynde Stetson and his wife Elizabeth Ruff. Stetson’s law partner, for a time, was President Grover Cleveland.

In addition to MJ, another famous artist also lived there, though one of the more traditional variety: 20th century painter Marc Chagall.

The six story townhouse was built in 1898, has 12,745 square feet and 16 rooms, seven of which are bedrooms. You’ll never be cold with ten wood burning fireplaces throughout, and the grand oak staircase and oak floors are a constant. The ground level features a secluded patio area, and there’s a spacious private roof deck with a kitchen at the other end of the property.

It sounds lovely, yet one source tells the Post that it’s wildly overpriced. “[Lasry] thinks it’s beautiful, but it it is very old and tired and needs a lot of work. A lot of everything.” We’ll just have to wait and see if someone scoops it up, and for how much.
