Joann Is Making a Comeback in a Surprising Way — Here’s What You Need to Know
If you’re a devoted DIYer who loves to do easy crafts at home, you might be feeling the sting of the recent loss of beloved fabric and craft store Joann. (That goes double for anyone who loves to crochet, since Joann offered cozy yarn options not available anywhere else.) There are some great stores like Joann you can shop at instead, but for anyone holding out hope for a Joann revival, I have great news: Michaels announced in a press release that it has purchased Joann’s intellectual property and in-house craft brands to offer to customers later this year.
What to Know About the Michael’s Purchase of Joann Brands
While Joann stores will still be shuttered, the Michaels deal means that some of Joann’s exclusive brands — like Big Twist yarn, a fan favorite among crocheters — will be making a return in Michaels stores and online. The purchase also includes fabric lines that will amount to a significant expansion of the fabric and sewing section that Michaels currently offers.
In addition to Joann private label materials, Michaels will be adding more than 600 new products to its offerings in the following categories:
- Fabric
- Sewing, including sewing machines
- Yarn
When You’ll Be Able to Purchase Joann Craft Brands Again
You won’t have to wait too long to see these new products on shelves and online. Michaels says that some new sewing and yarn products will be available as early as this month, including sewing machines, needle crafting kits, and some yarns from the Loops & Threads line. Larger collections from Red Heart and other yarn brands will be available this summer, and Big Twist will debut later this year.
Where You’ll Be Able to Purchase Joann Brands This Year
Michaels will offer these newly expanded product lines both in-store and online, where they’ll continue to roll out products over the course of the year. Like Joann, Michaels offers frequent sales and coupons, as well as a free loyalty program.
