The 2021 Color of the Year announcements keep coming, but this one differs from the rest. Minwax, a leading manufacturer of interior wood stains and clears, has chosen a shade that is meant to live on wooden surfaces. Say hello to the next color for your kitchen cabinet project, Vintage Blue

This week, Minwax revealed their first-ever color of the year Vintage Blue, a blue-green hue that embodies strength and calmness. “Capturing the stain color that reflects our evolving style at home is rooted in our desire to set a calmness and resilience as we move through the uncertainty,” says Sue Kim, Minwax color marketing manager.

The color is a balance of tranquility, found in its nurturing green, and natural strength in its renewing blue, according to the press release. When applied to a surface, this shade works to “bring out wood’s inherent beauty while maintaining its texture.”

In addition to Vintage Blue, Minwax has compiled a color palette that complements the COTY and can be paired in a room together. The palette includes White Frost, Amber, Carbonite, Denim Blue, and Classic Gray.

So if you have an upcoming DIY project that involves a wood stain, consider Vintage Blue and its palette family to make your home more resilient and relaxed with the power of color.
