Inside a Prefab Mobile Cabin With Dreamy Floor-to-Ceiling Windows
Prefab company Modern Shed has constructed a new mobile cabin that looks idyllic for retreating into the woods and streaming the “Folklore” album. The Dwelling on Wheels, coined the DW, is a prefabricated tiny home on wheels ideal as a nature retreat, home office, guest studio, and anything in between, really. Constructed with bright and spacious wood interior and sustainable linoleum flooring, Modern Shed’s DW is decked out in amenities that would allow for the ultimate off-the-grid escape.
Steel siding, cedar accent walls, an ironwood deck, solar arrays on the roof, and an access door are among the exterior amenities. Interior amenities include a small kitchenette area with a wood burning stove, two electric wall heaters, wall-to-ceiling glass windows, and, yes, a bathroom with a toilet. The resilient, low-maintenance mobile dwelling can accommodate three people with a large bed tucked below a twin bed in the sleeping area. Built-in storage and shelves are also a big benefit in the otherwise small space.
Inside the DW, the wall-to-ceiling bright wood interiors give the cabin a warm feel. Other details include birch cabinetry and open-awning windows to allow the natural sunlight to flood right in. “The Modern Shed team was inspired to embark on a creative project in 2020—creating their first-ever portable dwelling,” the prefab company writes of the DW. “Drawing on their design [and] build expertise, the team created a beautiful, self-contained space big enough to call home, yet small enough to take anywhere.”
The result is a dwelling that exemplifies the company’s core values: “Creating beautiful dwellings efficiently, sustainably, and cleverly.” Scroll through the gallery above for a tour of Modern Shed’s dreamy Dwelling on Wheels. And, Alexa, play “Exile” featuring Bon Iver.
