The $30 Target Pillow That’s Making a Chic French Trend Look Easy

Last year, moiré made a major comeback in the design world. Famous for its shiny, rippled water-like texture, this silky fabric first rose to popularity in the 19th and early 20th centuries — it was a favorite amongst kings and nobles — but it’s back and better than ever in 2026. 

Moiré has a distinctly formal, luxurious vibe about it that somehow feels both timeless and modern at the same time. The term actually means “watered” in French; I myself think it looks like the pattern that water casts on sand when sun shines through it. It may have once been found exclusively in grand palaces, but these days you’ll be able to get your French style fix at none other than Target. It’s all thanks to a new piece from the Threshold x Studio McGee line.

As a part of their latest Studio McGee for Threshold collection, Target’s new moiré throw pillow is truly a cut above. Although the fabric isn’t technically a traditional silk moiré (it’s actually velvet), it definitely has that signature rippled look. In a timeless cream hue, this chic accent piece would fit in with almost any decor style. 

One Target shopper says the following in their review: “The print is subtle but offers a slight contrast to [my] white couch,” which means it’s a great option for minimalists or neutral-lovers looking to experiment with adding a touch of texture. “I didn’t expect a toss pillow to make such a difference, but this one really did,” writes another happy customer. “The woven velvet print has this rich, textured look that feels a little upscale … making the whole house feel warmer and more stylish.”  

Love the moiré pattern, but not a fan of the faux stuff? Wayfair is selling the real deal, and as a set of four these pillows are honestly even more of a steal than Target’s design. The set of four mint green moiré throw pillows from Blazing Needles will set you back $60.49, but with Target’s version selling for $30 each, that means you’re getting each pillow for less than half the price apiece. 

“Great buy and they look so elegant,” writes one Wayfair shopper. Unlike Target’s design, however, these pillows are not washable; they must be spot-cleaned only. That can be a bit of a pain, but it’s worth it for the luxury vibes. No matter which style you choose, though, we’re glad that moiré is here to stay.
