Armadillo by Nook small space rug

According to designers, one of the biggest decorating mistakes designers people make is choosing the wrong rug size. Many pick too small because, well, carpets can be expensive, and it can be difficult to visualize a floor covering’s scale until it’s actually unrolled and in a room.

That makes sense in a big space like a living room, but what about often-forgotten areas of the home, including entryways, hallways, and all of the awkward corners and tiny alcoves in between? Picking something too small isn’t usually the problem in those spots—usually, the issue is finding something you really love. If you’ve ever wanted to add a rug to one of these areas but felt like your options were limited, then the new launch from Australian rug brand Nook by Armadillo is for you.

Handwoven from natural fibers, this collection of mats, runners, and scaled-down rugs certainly doesn’t skimp on style. If you’re a fan of the warm minimalist look, you’ll love the earthy patterns, natural hues, and rich texture that pieces from this assortment will bring into any space. The bulk of the collection is made of jute and wool, so the rugs are stain-resistant and will stand up in high traffic areas like a mudroom or entry. I actually think certain styles would be great in bathrooms, too, particularly if you’re not into the look of typical loop terry bathmats or worry that a higher pile vintage rug would attract moisture and mold.

Beni Ourain lovers will gravitate towards the Nala, shown above, which is the smaller sister rug to a much larger Armadillo style. It’d be the perfect piece near the nightstand in a small bedroom. I’m all about the Braid, a simple wool-blend circular design that comes in natural and gray colorways, for that same spot. Round and other non-rectangular rugs are certainly having a moment right now, and this style would be beautiful in front of a tub, too.
