Is there anything more gross than a hair-clogged drain? I honestly don’t think so. Listen, I know it’s my own hair, but there’s just something about a gloopy wad of strands (and all the pipe grime it attracts) that makes my skin crawl. I’ve probably tried dozens of drain covers to keep my shedding hair from slinking down the drain, but none of them ever worked — until I picked up this OXO Good Grips Hair Catch Drain Protector on a whim. 

I ended up being so pleasantly surprised by it that here I am, waxing poetic about a drain protector on the internet. The Hair Catch Drain Protector comes in two pieces: There’s a pronged silicone base that goes directly into the drain (just make sure yours is 1.5 to 1.8 inches in diameter), and a removable silicone topper that sits inside the base. Hair wraps around the topper’s conical shape, and the perforations on both pieces let water flow through uninterrupted. To clean it, you just remove the topper and (with a piece of toilet paper) wriggle the hair from the cone where it collects in a neat little ring. The silicone design is perfectly bendy so you don’t have to wrestle it to get the hair off — it comes off in seconds. 

Thanks to the Hair Catch Drain Protector, I’ve gotten fully ahead of my clogged drain problem. The silicone design is so easy to clean, I’ve made a habit of removing the collected hair from the topper after every shower — no more clogged drains! And it doesn’t gross me out like other drain covers I’ve tried. The hair comes off the flexible catcher in one easy clump (sorry), and the whole thing looks good as new afterward.
