Itching to update your space but don’t have the budget or time for a full makeover? Focus on something smaller that can make a big impact in the new year.

Painting your doors can give your space a fresh vibe without having to dedicate a full week (and massive budget!) for a costly renovation. Plus, adding door paint is a fun way to test out a color or style — all without fully committing.

“You don’t have to take huge risks to make a meaningful shift,” France Brunel (@iamfrancebrunel) wrote in an Instagram caption. “Changing the color of a door is one of the simplest, most impactful ways to inject a new energy into your space without overwhelming it.”

Painting Interior Doors Is the Simplest Way to Refresh Your Space

You can choose to paint just your door, or the door and its frame. Alternatively, carry the color along your baseboard to create more cohesion just like “sandwich method”! There are endless possibilities when you choose to update your doors, each of which will give a space a unique personality. Another bonus? Since it’s a smaller project, you can likely use any leftover paint.

After painting the doors in her home, Val behind @thegroundedhome on Instagram shared a few of her favorite tips for those wishing to do the same:

  • Use mini foam rollers on flat surfaces and angled brushes for detailed areas.
  • Paint the inner edge closest to the door frame the same color as the door, and the outer edge the same color as the wall of the room the door opens into.
  • Prime your door before you paint because doors are much more prone to scuffs and scratches.

Painting your doors could be just the thing to scratch that home makeover itch you have at the start of the year. The hardest part of the project will be deciding which color to choose — but you’ll find inspiration right here. Happy painting!
