This Garage Staple Doubles as a Headboard and Storage in a Tiny Bedroom

When I think of pegboards, visions of my childhood garage come to mind. In all the homes we lived in, this organizational staple was a focal point for displaying all of my dad’s tools. While practical, pegboards aren’t items I see as objects of beauty. That is, until I spotted one about the bed in Rosie Dart’s mezzanine guest bedroom in her multi-level apartment.

Rosie’s gorgeous pegboard display is proof that this garage staple can feel surprisingly warm and stylish while being multifunctional inside a home. 

Rosie’s mezzanine functions as a sleeping, crafting, and storage area, and while, yes, someone can sleep there, it’s not necessarily the most expansive space — which is why she had to maximize every inch, and that includes above the bed. Without a headboard, it could easily just be a waste of space, but not in Rosie’s home. 

While it’s an unusual spot for a pegboard, it offers Rosie (and her guests) more storage spots. The moveable pegs allow for an ever-evolving storehouse that can be customized to the person’s needs. For example, if a guest needs to stow their jewelry, they can do it at the foot of the bed so it’s not dangling in their face. 

What makes Rosie’s pegboard look less industrial and more soft is how she’s displayed artwork on it in addition to craft-related items like scissors and tape. In addition to moveable pegs, it looks like she has little shelves that can be swapped around and placed on the pegs. Rosie is a huge collector of vintage artwork, advertisements, and memorabilia, so it’s no surprise that she found a way to incorporate some into the guest sleeping area. 

If you want the best of both worlds — storage and an art display — consider adding a pegboard above your bed.
