Hot tip: Peel-and-stick backsplashes aren’t just for kitchens. The glossy, easy-to-clean peel-and-stick material is also a great option for laundry rooms and bathrooms.

In this bathroom redo, peel-and-stick tiles make a big change, as does paint. “I painted every corner,” DIYer Diana Crutchfield (@dianaycrutchfield) says. “A little bit of paint can change a lot.”

Paint rescued the old vanity.

Diana hated the minty sort of doctor’s office green wall color of her bathroom, but she liked the vanity — especially its scalloped detail. “It only needed some love and paint!” she says.

And that’s true for the whole bathroom. Diana gave the walls and ceiling a coat of Sherwin-Williams’ Nearly Brown, and she went a couple of shades darker for the vanity and mirror frame with Sherwin-Williams’ Aurora Brown

Diana says the hardest part of the makeover was painting the ceiling. “It was … super exhausting and annoying, but it made the difference,” she adds. But she also adds that painting the vanity was easier than expected because it didn’t need any sanding or new doors.

Peel-and-stick tiles add a cottagecore vibe.

In addition to paint, Diana added peel-and-stick tiles around the mirror frame and wrapped them around the adjacent wall, too. “That was a very economic way to add some interest in the bathroom,” she says. She went with a farmhouse-style wallpaper from Livette’s in a custom colorway.

Diana completed her makeover by replacing the vanity lights and sink hardware, as well as painting a medicine cabinet and making a DIY overhead light fixture for the space (you can see it in this video).

“I love how fresh and cozy it looks,” Diana says of her DIY makeover, which she estimates cost her between $700 and $800. “I am proud that I did not have to spend too much money on it, but the result is amazing.”
