When I step foot in my apartment, I want to feel immediately relieved and energized. I want it to feel like a warm hug while also inspiring me. Being a renter, I was hesitant for a long time to make any changes for fear of permanently damaging the space. However, after almost four years of living in my apartment, I’ve started to make light updates (like painting my bedroom).

If there’s an area in my apartment that needs a bit of TLC, it’s the entryway. (Admittedly, I don’t have a foyer or formal entryway area, but I’ve always wanted to make it feel like you’re leaving the weight of the day at the door.) I’ve always appreciated bold choices in homes, and so when I saw the entryway in Barbara Campbell’s colorful New York City apartment, I was starstruck.

For starters, the area is covered in shades of pink — arguably one of the happiest colors. Barbara drenched the room in pink-and-white patterned wallpaper, pink floral paintings, a pink velvet curtain, and a dresser and lamp shade in bold pink tones. When reading this, you might wonder if all of the pinks and patterns are too much. Spoiler: It’s not.

Even though it’s not technically a color-drenched room (where every inch of the walls is painted the same color) or the cocooning design trend (which takes it a step further by ensuring that all elements in the room are the same color), it’s somewhere in the middle, which makes it super exciting.

Barbara’s foyer feels like walking into a warm embrace, and it’s no surprise that she feels the same way. “I love this space because I’m surrounded by uplifting colors and designs that make me happy every time I walk in the door,” she shared at the time of the tour.

Believe it or not, this entryway isn’t the only showstopper in this apartment. Barbara’s walls are painted in a bright green color, too. To see more, visit the full home tour
