Take a scroll on social media, open up a shelter magazine, or digitally tour one of the homes here on Apartment Therapy, and it’s easy to see: Good lighting makes such a difference in the look, feel, and vibe of a room. Overheads are fairly easy to swap out, even in rentals, and lamps can add much-needed task illumination to spaces without any fuss at all. So why aren’t you layering in lights that work with your design style and budget? Maybe it’s because you haven’t found something that speaks to you yet, at a fairly affordable price point, and to that, I say: Meet Pooky Lighting

This cult-favorite U.K. brand just landed stateside, and I haven’t been this excited about a launch in a long time. That’s because Pooky hits all the high notes when it comes to decorative lighting; not only does the company offer beautiful chandeliers, pendants, flush mounts, sconces, lamps, outdoor-rated lights, mirrors, and more, but they’re also a true market leader when it comes to the cordless category. You’ll find more traditional rechargeable brass lamps alongside wall-mounted styles, and if you’ve ever felt like the LED restaurant lamp craze didn’t quite work for your space because all of the designs are uber-modern, Pooky’s got you.

And did I mention they also stock one of the most robust lampshade selections I’ve ever seen from a company? The à la carte shade and base offerings can be mixed to create a whopping 100,000-plus different pairings (and you can use those shades with standard lamp bases, too), so you’ll definitely have fun playing around with combinations or upgrading a lamp you already have with something new. If you find it tough seeing so many options while browsing, know that you can also use the brand’s filter settings to narrow things down before you zero in on a given style.

Pooky now ships nationwide within five to seven business days, and the brand also offers free delivery and returns. That should be enough to give you the confidence you need to shop without worry, but to make it even easier, I’ve chosen a few of my favorite products from the brand. Get ready to give your home’s lighting a glow-up, and trust me — the “big light” isn’t so bad when it looks like one of Pooky’s.

This turned base lamp may look traditional, but you can dial up the drama with a marbleized paper shade (or any of the other offerings you’re into, from pleated, printed shades, like what's shown here, to solid silk ones and many more in between). In this configuration, the lamp and shade cost $125 and would be a nice addition to a small nightstand or dresser.

Pooky
$695.00

More of a mid-century modern person? Pooky stocks plenty of lights in that category, including this black and gold Bow Tie Three Arm Chandelier. For its spunky shape and size, I’d say the $695 price tag is very reasonable.

Renters, rejoice! Pooky has a few styles of plug-in sconces that are perfect for saving space bedside. I’m partial to the Tiree, which, as shown here, can come with a solid silk shade. Or you can opt for multiple types of glass and/or paper versions as well. As you’re looking at most lights on the site, you’ll be able to see what kinds of shades can work with each style.

As an English brand, you can expect Pooky to have the quirky cottagecore trend look on lock, too. Case in point: The Aphrodite Rattan Pendant Light, which comes in two sizes and makes a subtle statement wherever you choose to put it (maybe over a dining nook or in an entryway?).

If you’re after the bookshelf wealth look, the Hernan Cordless Table Lamp will be right up your alley. With 10 hours of charge and three dimmable settings, use one for task lighting while reading. When you’re not poring over a book, let its trendy domed mushroom shape and handsome brass and antiqued bronze finish make your shelves look gorgeous.
