Even though restrictions are being lifted and people are making plans outside their homes, that doesn’t mean DIY projects are falling to the wayside. Homes are being spruced up to accommodate new needs (hello, finally having people over!) and outdoor spaces are being refreshed for the summer ahead, so online carts are filling up just the same. But with that comes the chance that there will be a shortage of supplies, and thanks to some HGTV expert intel, that includes one popular paint color you might have been eyeing.

Jon Pierre and Mary Tjon-Joe-Pin, the hosts of HGTV’s new show “Two Steps Home,” noticed paint projects in particular are booming through a recent discovery: Greek Villa, a soft white paint, is sold out at multiple Sherwin-Williams stores. “Today our main painter went to four different Sherwin-Williams, and there was no [white] paint — zero, I’m talking about Greek Villa,” Mary told Apartment Therapy. “He said, ‘Mary, I’ve been at stores since 9 a.m., and it’s almost lunchtime.’”

The duo said that the sold out paint is an indicator that people are still chipping away at the projects that have been on their to-do list. “People are doing things in their home right now, and what they’re doing are the things that make them feel good in the space, and make them feel like it’s an escape,” Mary said.

Not only is this a sign that people are staying busy with home projects, but it also implies that they are leaning into white. It’s no secret that all-white rooms have been popular for some time now, and this might mean that the trend isn’t going away anytime soon. Another potential reason: as people continue to sell their homes, they are giving their walls a refresh with some neutral paint

All of these seem to be likely reasons as to why white paint is flying off the shelves. But regardless of the why, if you have your heart set on white, fair warning that you might have a hard time finding it (and to have some back-up options, just in case).

Two Steps Home” airs on Wednesdays at 9/8 central on HGTV.
