As a professional organizer, when I look for storage and organizing finds (for myself or others), my primary concern is whether or not they pass the versatility test. Price point and quality are also undeniably important, but those details won’t matter if containers have one use and one use only. That’s because other factors — lifestyle, space, habits, stuff, and so on — constantly change. So if you can think long-term when purchasing storage solutions, you have the best chance of getting your money’s worth.

Costco continues to add to its selection of home organization products. But because the retailer is known for its bulk-sized merchandise, it’s tough to come by products under a certain amount. I was challenged to find home organizers on a budget of $25 — and one stood out as the top choice and is extremely versatile. Not to mention (or toot my own horn), it comes in $6 under budget.

This $18.99 11-piece Mesa Storage Basket Set is made of a plastic and wheat straw fiber blend and comes in a neutral color that will fit most home aesthetics. There are a variety of sizes, with five pairs of the same and one that stands alone. They can be used all over the house, including offices, kitchens, bathrooms, playrooms, bedrooms, and laundry rooms.

Immediately, my mind went to how they can be used to keep drawers tidy in every room. For instance, the medium and larger baskets can be used to sort socks or sports bras in the dresser, while the smaller baskets can keep nightstands organized. The fact that they’re open makes it easy to reach for what you need inside, and their material makes cleaning them effortless.

What I love about a set like this from a storage perspective is that you can repurpose them whenever and wherever you need to. Even if, say, a specific size fits inside your vanity drawers in the bathroom you have now but don’t once you move, you can try a different size from the same set. Or, put them to work virtually anywhere else. In other words, the goal is not to buy new containers every time you move, and investing in a flexible set like this helps you do just that.

If you’re not a current Costco member, you can find the same set at Walmart (although note that it will run you more here). And if you have a Costco membership, plus a little wiggle room in your budget, consider a 10-piece bamboo set of drawer organizers for $29.99.
