I Tried This Super-Plush Pillow, and It’s Great for Every Type of Sleeper
Choosing the right pillow can be a draining process, whether financially or even physically. There’s a lot to consider, like firmness, material, and shape. Pillows are also a very personal purchase — one person’s favorite pillow might not work for someone else. You also need to think about what kind of sleeper you are. Do you need a cooling pillow? A pillow that will help with neck pain? Do you sleep on your side, stomach, back, or all of the above?
Like a lot of people, I was long overdue for some new pillows, so I decided to test out The Purple Harmony Pillow (which won for Best Plush Pillow our Best List). And guess what? I am never going back to a regular pillow ever again.
I’d never tried a Purple product before, and honestly my first impression was, “Well, this is weird.” The pillow is kind of heavy and really sinks down when you lay your head on it. This pillow has Purple’s signature honeycomb-patterned grid on the outside that covers possibly the softest pillow I’ve ever slept on. I’ll be honest: The Purple Grid takes some getting used to, but over time, I found that the outer layer of the pillow perfectly cradles my head while I’m sleeping. And it’s quickly become the only pillow I reach for at bedtime.
The pillow itself is not only surprisingly plush, but it also springs back every time, which means you never have to fluff or adjust your pillow during the night. It comes in three heights — low, medium, and tall — so you can customize your sleeping experience. According to Purple, low height is best for stomach and back sleepers and medium or tall is best for side or combination sleepers. I’m a side and sometimes stomach sleeper, so I went with medium.
The outer layer of the pillow is a mesh cover that’s super light and breathable. It’s a great cooling pillow for hot sleepers like myself. In fact, it’s so cooling that I’ve found myself using a warmer pillowcase in the cooler months, so the pillow isn’t quite as chilly at night.
Purple has a few other pillow options, including the classic Purple Pillow, TwinCloud Pillow, and Cloud Pillow. But they only named the Purple Harmony Pillow “The Greatest Pillow Ever Invented” — and with good reason. At $159, this pillow is definitely an investment, especially if you’re like me and have been sleeping on the same pillow set since high school. But I promise it’s worth it.
A restful night’s sleep can only happen with the right accessories, and a good pillow is pretty high up on that list. And thankfully, Purple is now giving shoppers up to 25 percent off all pillows. So, if you’re struggling to make a decision out of the thousands of pillows out there, then I’d definitely recommend giving The Purple Harmony Pillow a try.
