Although half of my closet space is occupied by bedding, once the hot summer temps hit a couple of months ago I somehow found myself without a suitable covering for the season. I owned either very thick winter blankets and comforters or throws so thin and lightweight they’re practically see-through. I desperately needed something in between — heavy enough to prevent me from shivering in my bed at night, yet airy for breathability. Without thinking twice, I hit up Silk & Snow’s website to check out its offerings. This brand was top of mind because it makes my favorite linen sheets, which have barely left my bed all summer, so I figured I could find an equally cooling and stylish bed covering there. Lo and behold, I clicked on the muslin coverlet and determined that it was exactly what I’d been looking for. And, just like my linen sheets, it hasn’t left my bed since I got it in July.

What Is the Muslin Coverlet?

Silk & Snow has a number of muslin bed coverings, including a quilt and a duvet cover. I figured the quilt would be a bit too heavy, but the coverlet looked perfect. Muslin is a popular material for summer bedding and clothing precisely because of its breathability; it has a looser weave than many other materials, but it’s still made from 100% cotton. Additionally, the coverlet is OEKO-TEX certified, meaning it was made without the use of harmful chemicals or synthetics. And, like all of Silk & Snow’s offerings, its manufacturing process is fully transparent and detailed on the product page, so you can feel good about your purchase. The coverlet comes in three soft colors: white, oat, and luna. I have the oat color, and it matches everything else in my room, which makes it that much more fun to style.

Why I Love the Muslin Coverlet

Before I moved out of my parents’ house, Parachute’s cloud linen gauze blanket was my favorite bed covering. This one feels quite comparable, so it’s been great having something similar back in my bedding rotation. The muslin coverlet has the same gauzy texture that feels both spongy and soft to the touch. And it has a delicious drape that prevents me from kicking it off throughout the night — and I’m a tosser. Caring for it is also a breeze. I throw it in the washer, hang it on the drying rack before I leave for work, and it’s dry by the time I get back. Then it goes right back on my bed. Size-wise, I got the Queen, and I have a full-size mattress. If my bed frame weren’t so tall, the coverlet might look silly over it, but its corners only extend a couple of inches lower than they should. But I just roll the top side over an extra time, and it’s fine.

With one more month of summer to go, you can bet I’m continuing to use the coverlet well into fall. I think it’ll also make a great transition piece as the temps start to fall. In any case, it’s an item of bedding I’d recommend to anyone (especially hot sleepers) because you’ll want something like this on hand for any season. Now that it’s on sale, there’s no better opportunity to spring for your own coverlet.
