Think Thin: Slim Desks for Small Spaces

Think Thin: Slim Desks for Small Spaces

When I first moved into my apartment back in March, I was excited by the prospect of actually having enough space to fit a desk in the living room. After moving in the coffee table, the couch, an oversized chair, and a couple of lamps, only a small corner was left to possibly fit a desk. Since then I've been making do with the couch, dining table and kitchen bar. However, on my continuous search for small space desks, here are my favorites so far...

IKEA Micke Desk: The Micke desk is one I always eye whenever I'm in IKEA. I also like how there are more color options like a Kelly green or orange drawer. For a small desk, it's pretty functional with compartments for outlets and wire organization. The surface is limited though and can really only fit a laptop and a mouse comfortably.

Home Desk: For a brief period of time in elementary school, I had one of those lift-top desks. Pretty soon though, all desks at my school were replaced with sleek desks with open drawers versus lift-tops. This 'Home' desk from Julie Arrive is inspired by those traditional school desks. However, it's a modern take that isn't bulky but still provides ample storage.

Flat Mate Desk: This is probably one of the slimmest desk designs I've come across. It saves both wall and floor space and can get put away to look like an ultra thin cabinet of sorts. One of my favorite parts about this desk design are the slats inside that let you place little shelves to hold up your smaller tech, pencils and any other small supplies you need. You can also make a perfect tablet or magazine mount. Along with black and white, the Flat Mate desk also comes in bright blue, yellow, green and red.

Wonderwall: Always a good small space solution, the wall-mounted desk. Blu Dot has a collection called Wonderwall with all wall-mounted furniture. The desk is a pretty one and comes in a variety of nice materials including walnut, ivory and white. There's also a cord storage compartment to keep the clean look of the desk's design.

Go-Kart Bright Orange Desk: If the style of your apartment allows it, this bright orange industrial design desk on rollers could be a great way to bring a pop of color and modern design. This is more of a mobile space saving solution. Two of the wheels lock when you need to keep the desk in place. However, you can just roll it into another room or use it for something else after.
