This Buzzy Striped Wallpaper Has Shoppers in a Chokehold
Stripes are having a moment. Don’t believe me? Let’s take stock. Last summer, stripe-drenching (a take on the beloved color-drenching) was beginning to gain popularity. That momentum continued, and designers explained it was 2026’s biggest trend. In the premiere episode of Apartment Therapy’s Design Defined podcast, our Executive Home Director, Danielle Blundell, reiterated that stripes are everywhere.
So when I noticed that House Tour readers were snapping up the Spoonflower striped wallpaper seen in Kiera Kushlan’s guest bedroom in her Vermont cabin, I wasn’t shocked. Although they’re having a moment in the spotlight, stripes are a timeless pattern that you can feel confident investing in.
Striped Wallpaper Looks Good in Any Room
It’s no wonder that Kiera selected a fan-favorite wallpaper for the guest bedroom, as most of the rooms in her cabin are covered with eye-catching prints. What makes this a stand-out pattern is how wonderfully it blends with the other patterns and colors in the room. For example, the blue trim complements the wallpaper’s blue, and the checkered bedding doesn’t feel like it’s fighting the stripes. If you want to add drama to your room without going over the top, stripes are a great option.
If you like the look, but are reluctant to go all-in, you don’t necessarily have to commit to stripes galore. Just look at how Sydney Moss used stripes to transform the once-dark-red dining room in her eclectic apartment. Instead of wallpaper, she used Sherwin-Williams’ Sashay Sand and Gorgeous White to achieve the look.
Want to add subtle drama using stripes? Double up on them. Carlos Huber and Dr. Andrew Timberlake not only used blue-and-white striped wallpaper in the primary bedroom of their New York City apartment, but also included matching drapes. Although the color scheme is more subdued, the double stripes are an eye-catching detail.
Convinced of stripes’ power to create a timeless room? Me too. If you want to take the plunge, I suggest starting with Spoonflower’s striped wallpaper like Kiera. You don’t have to pick blue, either; there are 24 colors to choose from, along with several application methods, like peel-and-stick or grasscloth (among others).
Stripes aren’t going anywhere in the design world, and I’m not complaining about it. Incorporate this pattern into your home through wallpaper, or test it out with small decor items — you’re not going to regret it.
