Apartment living usually requires some level of craftiness when it comes to storage solutions. The space under the bed? That’s the perfect location for seasonal clothing. The oven? It might sound a tad theatrical, but a lot of people use it for shoe storage. But finding clever hiding spots for your stuff doesn’t necessarily have to be out of sight.

Perhaps one of the people who understands stylish storage the most is Tamiko Hargrove, the founder of the home decor and lifestyle brand A Wanderlust Home. Fourteen years ago, she moved from New York City to Montclair, New Jersey, into a 1930s prewar building — and hasn’t moved since. While the space is somewhat large for an apartment (around 1,200 square feet!), coming up with clever storage solutions is typical for apartment living.

While Tamiko’s apartment is near-perfect (it must be since she’s lived there for so long!), there were some slight downsides, namely, the lack of clothing storage. At the time of the tour, Tamiko mentioned how she wished she could be more like Carrie Bradshaw, who used her oven for clothing storage, but she enjoys cooking too much to make that a functional option. So, she chose to hide her items in plain sight.

“I actually store my shoes under my table skirt in the foyer of my home,” Tamiko shared at the time of the tour. “It’s easy to grab what I want to wear for the day and hide them so no one can see my shoes lined up when you enter my apartment.”

Table skirts have long been a chic storage solution, but it’s so wonderful to see how Tamiko made it her own. Her home decor style is traditional with a splash of glam, and table skirts are the perfect way to add a refined touch and cozy aesthetic to a space. When Apartment Therapy toured her home, Tamiko admitted it took years to arrive at a home decor style matching her energy. However, the lovely table skirts (there are several throughout!) are proof of her clever and stylish vision.
