It was the brightness of this 800-square-foot apartment in Philadelphia that attracted photographer Taylor Baldwin. “The first thing that caught my attention about my home was the endless amount of natural light. Being a natural light photographer I have this strong appreciation for the conversation the sun has in a space. This made decorating my home such a beautiful experience!” Taylor describes.

“Decorating my home has truly felt like writing a love letter to myself that has endless pages,” Taylor continues. “I was newly single when I moved into my home so I needed to create the soft and feminine safe space of my dreams. The beautiful artwork on the walls and random disco balls work together to spark every ounce of joy needed.”

Apartment Therapy Survey:

My Style: I celebrate black culture through my home design by showcasing not only my work but other artists that inspire me. Over my tea bar there are beautiful illustrations that complement my photography in an amazing way. In my kitchen there is a painting of Beyonce and Jay-Z that really brings all the color in my home together.

Inspiration: I am inspired by platforms like BLK + Home! They really do an amazing job at making me feel seen and appreciated. Thanks to them I know I can continue to make my home a beautiful space with no limits.

Favorite Element: My favorite thing about my home would have to be the disco balls when the sunshine hits! Like a lot of people I have seasonal depression and love to maximize my time with the sun.

Biggest Challenge: The layout of the place was a challenge! The kitchen, living, and dining room are pretty much connected so it was important to find ways to separate them. I used wallpaper, a rug, and artwork plus hung a disco ball as a faux chandelier!

Finally, what’s your absolute best home secret or decorating advice? The best decorating advice would be to mood board before starting a home project! Get all the ideas out of your head. I gather inspiration from BLK + Home, Apartment Therapy, random TikToks, and Pinterest! To keep myself organized I put it all on a Milanote board!
