It’s that time of year again: the temperature has dropped in most places, the days are still pretty short, and people are starting to feel it. If the winter blues are getting you down, why not give teal and white a try? HGTV star Breegan Jane swears by the color combination, going as far as to praise its calming effects

“What’s your favorite color combination?” the “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” designer asked in a Jan. 24 Instagram post. “Mine is definitely teal and white. Not only do they look amazing together, but they embody much of what I love about California. Coastal design infuses colors that open spaces up, and I love bringing that to a room’s interior.”

Jane snapped a photo of a teal outdoor canopied daybed couch with white cushions and pillows. The seating area is set against a white brick wall and teal gate, surrounding vibrant green grass. The whole scene is pulled together with a lone salmon pillow as a focal point.

“Teal combines the calming properties of blue with the life-giving qualities of green, characteristics I hope to inspire in my design: rejuvenation and serenity,” Jane continued. “Even as a neutral, white also ushers in peace and clarity. These are just a few reasons why you’ll see these colors throughout my home. Who wouldn’t want these gorgeous, positive tones in their places of comfort?”

Jane, who has also served as a guest judge on HGTV’s “Brother Vs. Brother,” isn’t the only designer to turn to teal recently. The color has become increasingly popular over the past five years, and Mindy Kaling even painted her front door teal in a vibrant display. Add a little white, and you have the keys to a truly soothing space.
