Usually, a coveted vintage find is a rewarding experience, but for Paige Nicole, one glance at her thrifted brass lamp quickly became a nightmare.

In a viral TikTok, Nicole gained over five million views in a video showing off her vintage lamp, and revealed a mysterious stain on it. “Well, wasn’t expecting that,” she captioned the video.

The stain became clear once Nicole returned home from the thrift store and realized that the lamp shade had a removable top half. An enormous stain was revealed on the inner shade of the lamp. Even though Nicole was hoping that the stain was soda, her comment section had more realistic answers. One user commented, “Put hydrogen peroxide on it… if it bubbles in mainly the stained area, it’s blood.” Blood?! On a lamp?! Suddenly, her haunted item was deemed the “murder lamp.”

As Nicole posted updates to #crimetok throughout the weekend on her TikTok account, she confirmed that the stain did appear to bubble and fizz, which she concluded after a family member tested it with hydrogen peroxide.

“I just wanted to throw it out there that I am not a forensic pathologist,” she said in a video. “I’m going to be using hydrogen peroxide and a UV light.”

In a recent update, she revealed that she has notified her local police department about the lamp’s potential evidence. Nicole also mentioned that she contacted the store that sold the lamp to her, and they shared that their donations are anonymous. Due to the amount of people that possibly touched the lamp prior to its purchase, Nicole said that there’s a possibility that the police won’t be able to trace it to any specific incident.

Although Nicole’s unsure if she’s going to be keeping the mysterious lamp, this can be a lesson to all secondhand shoppers to double check all of your items before checking out.
