While lighting is a crucial element in just about every room, it’s often overlooked in comparison to other home decor products. Unlike rugs or armchairs, lighting is generally out of sight, out of mind — but oftentimes, a change in lighting is all it takes to transform a room. A chandelier could add subtle opulence to a living room, for example, while a neon sign could add whimsy to a kitchen. (Just ask Lizzo, who has the peachiest peach-shaped neon light in the kitchen of her Los Angeles home.) If you’re in the market for some new lighting, allow ElectricalDirect’s latest trend report to light the way.

Lighting-related searches, such as “lighting,” “lamps,” and “lights,” have experienced a rapid increase within the last 12 months, according to the electrical supplier. With these searches, ElectricalDirect examined search volume and growth to determine the top lightening trends for 2021. The results? According to the report, friendship lamps are the top lighting trend of the year — experiencing a 1957% growth within the last 12 months with over 132,000 annual searches.

It comes as no surprise, too. A friendship lamp syncs to another friendship lamp via WiFi and offers long-distance friends and family to connect with a simple tap — one tap lights up both lamps, offering a creative way to stay connected during the ongoing pandemic. Check out more of the top lighting trends below.
