If ever there was a year to load friends up with gifts that help them pamper themselves, it’s this year. And with sales on beauty and skincare faves, there’s no shortage of ideas for self-care gifts that won’t break the bank. Rather than load up my basket at Sephora (and do considerable damage to my wallet in the process), I’m making a beeline to a highly underrated space: The wellness aisle at Trader Joe’s, where the grocer’s 12 Days of Beauty advent calendar is waiting to make your day.

The advent calendar first popped up on the famed Trader Joe’s List Instagram account in mid-November, which means it’s almost certainly on shelves at your local store. The box retails for $19.99, and features a dozen travel-sized versions of some of the brand’s best loved products. Each is hidden behind an easy-to-open door, and contains enough product for one or more nights dedicated to pampering yourself.

Inside, you’ll find everything you need for one luxurious self-care routine, including:

  • Toasted marshmallow shimmer body wash
  • A peel-off face mask infused with vitamin C
  • Three-in-one shampoo, conditioner, and body wash (which is MakeupAlley-approved!)
  • Body butter in two vacation-ready scents: Clementine and coconut
  • Rose facial oil
  • SPF-boosted facial lotion
  • Cherry blossom hand cream (for all that hand washing you’ve been doing)
  • An exfoliating sugar scrub in twee cube form
  • Gingerbread body scrub
  • Almond-scented balm
  • Blueberry and açaí facial scrub, which relies on gentle oatmeal and alpha-hydroxy acids rather than harsh abrasives

Of course, part of the fun of an advent calendar is enjoying the fruits of your discovery that day. While there are numbers on the box’s tabs, many of them are faint enough to ignore for a choose-your-own adventure reveal, to maintain the element of surprise. I’ve already stocked up and shipped my gifts out, to give one group of friends the gift of beauty for half of December. Best of all, the total came to under $100 to cross five people off my list in one go—and makes any bathroom holiday-ready in the process.
