Denville, NJ, USA - April 7, 2024: Located along Route 10 in suburban Morris County, the Shoppes at Union Hill strip mall offers shoppers a variety of retail options, including clothes stores, restaurants, a supermarket, a bank, and many other specialty stores.

While the summer temps are still raging high in August, I’m already dreaming of the cooler weather September is promising — and an official seasonal shift into fall. I don’t personally subscribe to the pumpkin craze (no judgement!), but I do love making my apartment smell as if I’m traipsing through a pile of crunchy leaves under autumnal skies. That’s why I freaked out when I spotted that Trader Joe’s brought back its beloved earthy, woodsy candles for the upcoming season: And I’m stockpiling them before they’re gone for yet another year.

If you haven’t been to your local TJ’s in a minute, you need to know that the grocer’s Woodlands Scented Candle has officially returned — and it’s exactly the kind of small luxury that makes a regular grocery run so much more exciting. Per Trader Joe’s, the nearly six-ounce candle is made with a unique blend of soy wax, coconut oil, and beeswax, but is dressed in notes of cypress, jasmine, moss, vetiver, and cedar. In other words, it’s less “pumpkin pie” and more “wandering through a forest on a crisp October afternoon” — which is exactly the vibe I want this time of year.

Why Trader Joe’s Fans Are Psyched to See Woodlands Back

If you’re already familiar with Woodlands, you probably don’t need much convincing to pick one up. Diehard TJ’s fans have been celebrating its return on Reddit, with people describing the scent as “woody,” “fresh,” “mossy,” and “oh-so comforting.” One shopper even said it reminded them of a classic fall afternoon in Oregon, while another praised this ultra-affordable find for avoiding the harsh, artificial smell that sometimes comes with forest-inspired fragrances.

This year’s version comes in Trader Joe’s signature travel-friendly tin with a bit of a twist — it’s finished in a sleek matte black color. TJ’s tin makes it easy to move from your coffee table to your nightstand, kitchen counter, or wherever else you want a little dose of pure fall magic. And at just $3.99, according to current price tracking, it’s the kind of seasonal purchase that doesn’t require much deliberation.

The Real Reason I’m Obsessed with This Trader Joe’s Scent

It’s a major plus for me, but it may be worth noting for you — some Redditors have shared that this seasonal scent isn’t the strongest compared to others. The Woodlands’ candle has a faint throw that doesn’t overpower a room easily; comments said it’s weaker than other beloved seasonal scents like winter’s Cedar Balsam. If you’re a fan of candles that create a head-turning scent aura in your space (I get it!), maybe buy more than one to ensure they do the trick.

For a cozy, earthy scent at an incredibly friendly price, Woodlands feels like a quintessential Trader Joe’s fall find that you’ll cherish. Like many of the chain’s seasonal home products, it won’t stick around forever — meaning you’ll need to high-tail it to the seasonal aisle during your next trip to TJ’s. If you’re anything like me, you’ll end up purchasing a handful: one for now, and more for the next chilly night when you’ll transport yourself into magical fall forests.
