As someone who loves gardening but lives in an apartment, finding ways to incorporate my green thumb (or at least the appearance that I have a green thumb) into my living space has been an ongoing process, to say the least. In the meantime, one of my favorite ways to garden is to grow plants in my kitchen windowsill — particularly plants that I can then use in my cooking.

If you’re on the hunt for something similar, I recommend heading to your local Trader Joe’s. The store is currently selling a three-plant potted herb garden that’s perfect for homes of all sizes. Better yet, it will only cost you $7.99, and it even makes an adorable holiday gift for all of your loved ones with green thumbs!

TikTok content creator @traderjoestalia showed off the herb garden in a November 2 video rounding up the store’s new and returning products. The Trader Joe’s potted herb garden includes rosemary, thyme, and sage plants — perfect for fall cooking and for utilizing my winter-weather green thumb.

“I was very interested to see this today,” she said in the video, holding it up to the camera. “It says it’s stuffing seasoning. How perfect.”

“The potted herb garden is so aesthetic,” one TikToker commented on the video.

“I don’t even live in America and I want all of this 😭,” another commenter wrote.

But once you get your herb plant, you’ll want to keep it alive. Don’t just shove it into a corner of your kitchen, even if it’s convenient!

When it comes to caring for herbs, the more natural light you can give them, the better. If you’re going to keep your herb garden indoors (which probably makes sense, given the time of year), just make sure that your plants get plenty of bright, indirect light through a south- or east-facing window. If you’re concerned about whether your apartment boasts enough natural light, experts recommend investing in a grow light that can give your herbs around 14 to 16 hours of light per day.

If you can’t make it to Trader Joe’s or your store is sold out of the herb garden, you can find a similar one from Amazon for $24.99. The Planters’ Choice Store’s nine-herb indoor window garden kit is about three times more expensive, but it also comes with seeds, soil, and more to help you grow dill, basil, chives, thyme, parsley, oregano, cilantro, sage, and mustard plants.
